Sharing upstream contribution mentoring result with Korea user group

Hello, I got involved organizing & mentoring Korean people for OpenStack upstream contribution for about last two months, and would like to share with community members. Total nine mentees had started to learn OpenStack, contributed, and finally survived as volunteers for 1) developing OpenStack mobile app for better mobile user interfaces and experiences (inspired from https://github.com/stackerz/app which worked on Juno release), and 2) translating OpenStack official project artifacts including documents, and Container Whitepaper ( https://www.openstack.org/containers/leveraging-containers-and-openstack/ ). Korea user group organizers (Seongsoo Cho, Taehee Jang, Hocheol Shin, Sungjin Kang, and Andrew Yongjoon Kong) all helped to organize total 8 offline meetups + one mini-hackathon and mentored to attendees. [Proposal] I18n Contributor Guide doc folder to follow documentation structure

Hello team, I18n contributor guide ( https://docs.openstack.org/i18n/latest/ ) is based on rst files in http://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack/i18n/tree/doc/source folder, but the folder structure is different from other project documents after project document migration [1]. How about moving rst files except index.rst into "contributor" folder like [2] to follow project document structure? Thanks a lot for nice summary on Docs part especially! I would like to add an additional summary with more context from I18n perspective. Note: I mainly participated in Docs/I18n discussion only on Monday & Tuesday (not available during Wed - Fri due to conflicts with other work in my country), and my summary would be different from current I18n PTL if he have parcipated in Stein PTG, but I would like to summarize as I18n ex-PTL (Ocata, Pike) and as one of active partcipants in Docs/I18n discussion. Documentation & I18n teams started to have collaborative discussions from Pike PTG. Following with Queens & Rocky cycle, I am so happy that Documentation & I18n teams had tight collaboration again at Stein PTG for horizontal discussion with sharing issues and tight collaboration. More details for I18n issues are available at the bottom part ("i18n Topics") in: https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/docs-i18n-ptg-stein PROJECT DOCUMENTATION TRANSLATION SUPPORT This year, I18n team actively started to support project documentation translation [1] and there had progress on defining documentation translation targets, generatepot infra jobs, and translation sync on from project repositories to Zanata for translation sources & from Zanata to project repositories for translated strings. [2] and [3] are parts of work I18n team did on previous cycle, and the final part would be how to support translated documentation publication aligned with Documentation team, since PDF support implementation is also related with how to publish PDF files for project repositories. Although there were so nice discussion during last Vancouver Summit [4], more generic idea on infra side how to better support translated documentation & PDF builds and translation would be needed after some changes on Project Testing Interface which is used for project documentation builds [5]. [6] is a nice summary from Doug (really appreciated!) for the direction and plans on PDF and translation builds by making use of openstack-tox-docs job [7], and I18n team would like to continue to work with Documentation and Infrastructure teams on actual implementation suring Stein cycle. USER SURVEY, TRANSLATING WHITEPAPERS, AND RECOGNITION ON TRANSLATORS With nice collaboration between Foundation and I18n team, I18n team started to translate OpenStack user survey [8] after initial discussion on Pike PTG and, edge computing whitepaper [9], and container whitepaer [10] into multiple languages with many language coordinators and translators. Those translation effort might be different from Active Technical Contributor (ATC) recognition which translators also got for OpenStack project translation and techical documentation translation [11]. Some translators shared that they would be interested in translating technical documents but not interested in OpenStack user survey and other non-technical documents. I thought that it might be due to different governance (Foundation-led & official projects with technical committee might be different), and Active User Contributor (AUC) [12] recognition might be a good idea. Although I could not discuss in details with User Committee members during PTG, Foundation agreed that AUC recognition for such translators would be a good idea and Melvin, one of user committee agreed with the idea during a very short conversation. In my opinion, it would take some time for more discussion and agreement on detail criteria (e.g., which number of words might be good aligning with current AUC recognition criteria), User Committee, and Foundation), but let's try to move forward on this :) Also, documentation on detail steps and activities with user survey on further years and more on whitepapers would be important, so I18n team will more document how I18n team members do action with steps like [13]. And some translators shared concerns what there is no I18n in OpenStack project navigator and map. It would be also related with recognition on what translators contributed. Foundation explained that it might be the intention of the purpose of each artifact (e.g., OpenStack were designed to show OpenStack components and how those components interact each other with technical perspective), and Foundation shared that Foundation would do best to aggregate scattered definitions (e.g., [14], [15], and somewhere more) for consistency, and find a nice place for Docs, i18n, Congress, etc... on the Software/Project Navigator. TRANSLATING CONTRIBUTOR GUIDE WITH FIRST CONTACT SIG The detail summary is in [16]. To summarize, - I shared I18n process to First Contact SIG members. Participants acknowledged that setting *translation period* would be needed but starting from initial translation process would be a good idea since it is not translated yet - Participants think that user groups would be interested in translating contributor guide. - Me will setup translation sync and publication on contributor guide and Kendall Nelson would kindly help explain the background of adding contributor guide for translator target. I18N-ING STORYBOARD [17] Although I18n team now uses Launchpad [18] for task management, I think there are mix on multiple language issues on "bugs" section, which prevents from maintance by language coordinators. After discussion on I18n mailing list [19], I thought that it would be very grat if Storyboard is internationalized so that I18n team can migrate from Launchpad to Storyboard and more global contributors access to Storyboard with their native language. One issue regarding I18n-ing Storyboard was that story description for most projects needs to be written in English, but I18n-ing Storyboard might mislead contributors to write description in non-English. Participants thought that adding a warning message on posting pages (e.g., posting a Story) would solve this issue. Participants shared current implementation technologies used in Storyboard and other dashboard projects such as Horizon and TripleO UI. Brainstorming and making use of I18n-ing libraries on Storyboard is an action item at current point. PROCESS ON OPENSTACK-HELM DOC FROM NON-ENGLISH TO ENGLISH* * I participated in a brief discussion with OpenStack-Helm team for documentation contribution from Korean to English. Current documentation and I18n process starts from English to multiple languages, but some active contributors in OpenStack-Helm team would like to contribute to Korean documentation first and translate from Korean into English. My suggestion is to keep current documentation and I18n process but add more additional steps before English rst-based documentation. For example, if OpenStack-Helm team cores agree to have *doc-ko_KR/source* folder, contributing Korean documentation is limited to the folder, Zanata helps to translate from Korean to English on the folder, translated po can make English rsts, and translated rst files are added to *doc/source* folder, there might be no affect on existing documentation & I18n process and Korean documentation contrubution and translation from Korean to English would be encouraged. OpenStack-Helm team agreed with this step, and I think this would be a good step for more Internationalization as a pilot project first but this can be extended to more projects in future. This is my summary on I18n issues discussed during Stein PTG. Thanks a lot for all members who involve and help Documentation and I18n. [I18n] Stein translation plans and prio

Hello, the PTG is just over and now we are at the beginning of the work for Stein cycle. First of all let me thank all supporters for the I18n team and all individuals who help to present OpenStack in different languages. We have made so much progress since the formation of the team. What are the workflows now for the Stein cycle: 1. Project documentation translation We have now the right Zuul jobs in the flow to pull and push documentation from project repos to Zanata and back. At the moment there are 3 early-bird projects on the list: Horizon, OpenStack Ansible, and OpenStack Helm. Expanding this list will be the main work in the cycle. 2. Whitepaper translation Early this year we started with translation of Edge Computing Whitepaper. After solving issues with publishing translated content we have here now also a flow from the origin document through translation platform and back. Container whitepaper is the second project in this space. 3. Stein Dashboard translation All translation strings from stable/rocky branch are merged back to master and we work ahead on the master branch. There are 22 projects on that list. [storyboard] [I18n] Can Storyboard web pages be translatable to multiple languages?

Hello, I wanna ask whether https://storyboard.openstack.org/ web pages can be translatable to multiple languages (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, ...) or not. I have thought such idea on my mind from some time period ago, and I think now would be a good timing for raising this question since it seems that more project repositories are migrating to Storyboard, and internationalization of Storyboard is one of criteria for I18n team to decide to migrate to Storyboard (FYI: discussion on I18n team - [1]). From my very brief investigation, it seems that adding I18n support on html pages like [2], extracting translation source strings to pot files, syncing with Zanata [3] with powerful infra support [4] would make Storyboard translatable with translating to multiple languages by I18n team. Am I understanding correctly and can I18n team get help on such effort? Retiring i18n-spec repository?

Hi Frank and i18n cores, i18n-spec repository is never used since it is created almost two years ago. I would like to propose the retirement of the i18n-spec repository. The number of proposals was small so far and it would continue. If some proposal needs more detail explanation we can use the i18n repository. Hello, we are shortly in the beginning of the hot translation phase for Rocky. Few days ahead hard string freeze. We're well prepared. 1. Hard String Freeze In this period and around release we work on stable/rocky branch in each project beside main documentation. Branching is a creeping process, so please use Rocky Dashboard Translation from Zanata mainpage https://translate.openstack.org. Dashboard will be ongoing updated. 2. Whitepaper translation There are two whitepaper in the queue: for Edge Computing and for Containers. The first document is now in a new version available. This was required due the new publishing process. It's easy to convert with Translation Memory the new version from the old one. But there are still issues with publishing so I recommend to focus on project translation starting from next week. 3. PTL election This is also ongoing. See which candidates are running for Stein: https://governance.openstack.org/election/#stein-ptl-candidates 4. Translation Check Site I can announce the official sponsorship for this project by Deutsche Telekom. I18n ATC status

Hello, during the approval process for Extra-ATC in I18n we experienced one issue again: Foundation membership. Your ATC status for contribution is out of question, but for elections of PTL/UC/TC/anything is Foundation membership absolutely required. If you are using for Foundation membership and Zanata the same e-mail address, then you're fine. But if these addresses are different, it's required to configure the e-mail address for Zanata registration as second e-mail address in your Foundation membership profile. Hello Sebastian, Korean has also currently 100% translation now. About two weeks ago, there were a discussion how to include the list of translators per translated document. My proposal is mentioned in [1] - do you think it is a good idea and it is under implementation, or parsing the name of translators in header lines on po files (e.g., four lines on [2]) would be better idea? [I18n] [PTL] [Election] Candidacy for I18n PTL in Stein Cycle

[posted & mailed] https://review.openstack.org/#/c/585663/ This is my announcement for re-candidacy as I18n PTL in Stein Cycle. At first a quick review what we've done in the last cycle: 1. Zanata upgrade done. As one of the first community's we're running Zanata Release 4 in production. A big success and a great user experiense for all. 2. Translation Check Site done. We were able to win Deutsche Telekom as sponsor for resources, so now we are able to host our own Translation Check Site. From my point of view this solves different problems which we had in the past and now we can check translation strings very fast on our requirements. 3. Aquire more people to the team. I had great experiences during the OpenStack Days in Krakow and Budapest. I shared informationen what our team is doing and how I18n works in the OpenStack Community. I've got many inspirations and hopefully some new team members :-) What I mostly like is getting things done. In this cycle we should get ready project doc translations. We started already with some projects as a proof of concept and we're still working on it. To get that around, involve more projects and involve more project team members for translations is the biggest challenge for me in this cycle. On the other hand we have Edge Computing whitepaper and Container whitepaper on our translation plan. With a new technology in use to publish the translation results very fast on the web page. Beside that we have the OpenStack Summit Berlin in that cycle. For me a special event, since I live and work in Berlin. I expect a lot of collaboration and knowledge sharing with I18n and the OpenStack Community in general. That's my plan for Stein, I'm looking forward to your vote. RST based process is used much in the community and translation publishinng of project docs which Ian and us are working on will make the continuous publishing easier. I am happy to help setting up a new doc infrastructure and/or publishing translations. Regarding the license, CC BY-ND license turned out a bit too strict in our collaborative works when I checked the current one. Hopefully we can get a good conclusion for further similar cases. [I18n] Translation plan & priorities for Rocky

Good morning, welcome to the Rocky translation release cycle! We merged today on our translation platform the stable-queens translations back to master and created a new translation dashboard on [1]. There are 19 projects identified for translation in Rocky. Please check your own project, if it meets your expectations. Furthermore we have 5 documentation projects still on the list [2]. There is a very good progress and only deltas are required to translate. Additional we have the translation for the Edge Computing Whitepaper still online [3]. If you are interested to have this in your language, please go ahead. New language version will be accepted. Early April we want to start with a new User Survey Translation. There will be very few changes. Due the upcoming Summit in Berlin we want to translate the results of the survey also, at least to German. Last but not least, as Petr mentioned yesterday evening on openstack-dev, our big goal for Rocky is project doc translation. We already talked to some project teams in Dublin and we're still in preparation before we can start. Zanata upgrade to version 4

We will take the chance now to upgrade our translation platform to a new version. We don't expect bigger issues because we tested the upgrade process anyway on translate-dev.openstack.org. One problem in Launchpad is that it is rather difficult to find this bug again for future reference. For bug purposes, yep I agree that it is much better to close this bug as "Fix Released" so I have just changed the status. [I18n][PTL] PTL nomination for I18n

This is my announcement for re-candidacy as I18n PTL in Rocky Cycle. The time from the last cycle passed very fast. I had to manage all the things that a PTL expects. But we documented everything very well and I always had the full support of the team. I asked the team and it would continue to support me, which is why I take the chance again. This is the point to say thank you to all that we have achieved many things and we are a great community! Now it's time to finish things: 1. Zanata upgrade. We are in the middle of the upgrade process. The dev server is sucessfull upgraded and the new Zanata versions fits all our requirements to automate things more and more. Now we are in the hot release phase and when it's over, the live upgrade can start. 2. Translation check site. A little bit out of scope in Queens release because of lack of resources. We'll try this again in Rocky. 3. Aquire more people to the team. That will be the main part of my work as PTL in Rocky. We've won 3 new language teams in the last cycle and can Openstack serve in Indian, Turkish and Esperanto. There is even more potential for strengthening existing teams or creating new ones. For this we have great OpenStack events in Europe this year, at least the Fall Summit in Berlin. We plan workshops and presentations. The work of the translation team is also becoming more colorful. We have project documentation translation in the order books, translation user survey and white papers for working groups. We are well prepared, but we also look to the future, for example how AI-programming can support us in the translation work. If the plan suits you, I look forward to your vote. Hi, I would like to request to add the following dashboards to "Queens dashboard translation" group [1] on Zanata. They are all ready for use. * octavia-dashboard * neutron-fwaas-dashboard * neutron-vpnaas-dashboard neutron-fwaas-dashboard and neutron-vpnaas-dashboard were previously part of horizon, so I think translators can recover translation easily. octavia-dashboard is a successor of neutron-lbaas-dashboard and most strings are same as those in neutron-lbaas-dashboard. Hello Translation Team, I'm happy to announce some good news before the weekend. Through the tireless work of the Infra Team we have now Zanata 4.3.3 on the ramp and is testable on [1]. Due the switch of OpenID provider in the past the database was confused and much people were not able to login anymore. This is now fixed, a fresh database was installed within this version. Please register new and let me know what are you needed. I installed 2 projects and some few languages. Especially we have to test the new software and functionality, of course. Another good news: I18n Extra-ATCs for Queens were delivered in time [2]. The data are collected by Zanata Stats API and to corresponding rules created this proposal. Let me know if you have any questions or hints. And don't forget: We're are few weeks until release and translation phase will start in the beginning of next month. tools problem with networking-bgpvn

Looking at failures, I see http://logs.openstack.org/periodic/git.openstack.org/openstack/networking-b… Problem is: + git status On branch proposals Changes not staged for commit: (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) modified: networking_bgpvpn_heat/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/networking_bgpvpn_heat.po and then git review fails because of modified local files. I'm puzzled why the logic is not working with this repository. Could anybody else dig into this, please? Problems with Arabic horizon translation

Looking at http://logs.openstack.org/periodic/git.openstack.org/openstack/horizon/stab… I see that the ar files are broken. Looks like Arabic has 6 plural forms but the file only translates the first two. Yasir, could you look into all these plural forms, please? [I18n] Team meeting today

Good morning, I know, I forgot to sent out the meeting reminder, but at the end it's only a reminder for our regular team meeting weekly. Schedules and a link to an ics file can you found at [1]. Due the fact we had very few participants today I would like to share some information here: 1. Zanata-Upgrade. We've got the initial merge in puppet-zanata (thx to the infra-team) and at the moment I test again the upgrade procedure. 2. Restore Mitaka documentation by the docs-team. It's done. Now we're missing some language specific landing pages, i.e. [2]. We can discuss how to handle this in general. Or feel free to start a proposal. 3. PTG is coming! Next Project Teams Gathering will held in Dublin, Ireland. In February 2018. Please share your ideas on [3]. As ususaly we will together with the docs-team, so at the end we have one merged agenda. Could you disable django_openstack_auth *master* version?

Hi OpenStack Zanata admin, Could you disable django_openstack_auth *master* version? During the Queens development cycle, horizon team merges django_openstack_auth code into the main horizon tree. This means the master branch of django_openstack_auth will not be used for development anymore. Note that this request only applies to the master version in Zanata. The stable branches (stable/pike and stable/ocata) are still used for maintenance. In addition, I also suggest to drop django_openstack_auth from "Queens dashboard translation" group. New Language Team for Esperanto

Hi, is it possible to start a new language team for Esperanto, language code "eo" (ISO639-1) I would like to contribute, but cannot see Esperanto yet in the list of languages on Zanata. So could you pls add Esperanto as language for openstack project translations ? [I18n] Language landing pages with draft translated documents

Hello, As you already know, https://docs.openstack.org/ also has multiple language landing pages :) Previously, there were http://docs.openstack.org/draft/draft-index.html page which contains the links of both draft documents and draft translated document. Since the page does not exist anymore, I would like to suggest a new policy for language landing pages: - Language landing pages can have draft translated documents with the agreement of I18n team PTL, Docs/I18n team core reviewers, language coordinators or active language team translators. The patch https://review.openstack.org/#/c/520997/ reflects this new policy with syncing current translation ratio including translated release notes and translated user survey link. The patch is currently WIP because I do not know many other languages - I would like to kindly ask language teams to tell translated strings to complete the patch :) Also I especially appreciate Indonesian and Turkish language team whose documentation translation ratio is very high! The future of language coordinator

Hello, this week I had a conversation with Ian about the future of language coordinators and how to improve the communication within the team. I checked the Zanata user management and did some changes for different language teams. 1. In some teams Daisy was configured as a language coordintaor. Maybe as you know: She invented the I18n team and did an incredible job. But her priorities have changed and as we say in our country: life goes on. So I removed the account from such kind of language teams. 2. If there are no team members left, the language teams are empty. This avoids uncertainties when new people contact the language coordinator and then receive no response. 3. If there are one team member in such kind of team: Congrats! Now you are the new language coordindator! Please read in the I18n guide on [1] what roles in language team mean and how to deal as a language coordinator. 4. Other language teams are untouched. But we have still accounts from inactive members configured and (this is the real issue) inactive language coordinators with active team members. Under the help of Stackalytics [2] I will try to investigate the situation in the different language teams. As far as I know, semi-colon is ";" character and colon is ":" character. [docs][i18n][ptg] Denver PTG Summary for Docs (and i18n)

Hi all, Just wanted to share a few notes and a brief summary of what happened in Denver last week, during the Project Team Gathering, in docs and i18n shared sessions. We had a fairly good attendance of 5 to 15 ppl during the first two days. A number of people primarily working on other projects showed up in our sessions to chat about common issues and plans. On the other hand, many of our cores couldn't attend, though I'm hoping if PTG comes closer to Europe, the attendance will improve. On a related note, we also welcomed new cores to the team and the Denver PTG was an opportunity for some of us to meet face to face for the first time. The overall schedule for all our sessions with some comments can be found at https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/docs-i18n-ptg-queens, there's also https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/doc-future-problems with a more detailed discussion of some of the items. To summarize what I found most important: VISION We spent a lot of time discussing a new vision document for the docs team, based on the updated docs team mission statement (https://review.openstack.org/#/c/499556/) A working draft is available here: https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/docs-i18n-ptg-queens-mission-statement In the coming weeks, we'll transform those notes into a final draft and share it with the broader community for input. The next step after this would be to update/rework https://governance.openstack.org/tc/reference/tags/docs_follows-policy.html. EOL DOCS AVAILABILITY Discussed addressing numerous issues related to publishing EOL docs and our docs retention policy, based on community feedback and many requests. The plan is to write a retention policy docs spec, resurrect Mitaka docs and add badges to clearly identify unsupported content, among other things. HA GUIDE Work will continue on the guide per the previous plans. ARCHITECTURE GUIDE >From Pike, this guide is frozen. Patches still welcome. OPENSTACK-MANUALS BUGS To be moved to appropriate projects, if applicable. CONFIG DOCS Discussed with several teams, particularly cinder, how to generate config tables using oslo_config.sphinxext. REDESIGNING DOCS SITE A couple of improvements to adjust the site content structure and overall design was discussed, such as tweaking lists of projects, linking from series subpages back to the top page, install vs. deployment pages, linking to projects with no stable branches, redoing our sitemap, switching to SCSS, improving HTML semantics, etc. DOCS TOOLING Doug kindly offered the team and the community to give a presentation about updated docs tooling: https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/doc-tool-lunch-and-learn We'll turn this into a proper doc and share with everybody. INSTALL GUIDES TESTING A couple of people and teams showed interest in testing the Pike install guides (common content + minimal deployment services). To track this activity, we'll use this wiki page: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Documentation/PikeDocTesting TRANSLATIONS Discussed generating multiple PO files for docs migrated to project repos, to make translators' lives easier. Hello, Really contrats, Frank Kloeker - he was finally chosen as I18n team PTL for Queens development cycle! It was so great for me as a PTL for two cycles to interact with not only many translators, but also many OpenStack community members including upstream developers, operators, user group members, and also Foundation members. Simplified Chinese cannot be found in the language list in Horizon

Please do more translation and translation review contributions on "stable-pike" versions if exist. Horizon team said that it is worth to have RC2. Welcome a new i18n-core and explanation on extra ATCs

Hello, I would like to happily announce a new i18n core: Robert Simai. The following is the analysis from current i18n core reviewer(s): - Robert Simai is now active, an ATC (translation count) [1], has made commits on openstack-manuals regarding i18n [2], and also has been serving as a German I18n language coordinator for years. Actually, I suggested to propose more i18n core reviewers, but it seems that more agreement or recommendation is needed. If you have a good suggestion for i18n core reviewers, please do not hesitate to share your thoughts to I18n PTL or current i18n core reviewers. The list of current i18n core reviewers is available at [3]. For extra ATCs, I submitted as seen in [4] for active translators and/or reviewers and the result was accepted by Technical Committee. To become an extra ATC (of course, I18n team hopes to automate the process of proposing as extra ATCs for active translators and/or reviewers), a member needs to be a "Foundation Member". Hello everyone, I would like to announce my candidacy for Documentation PTL (Queens). First of all, I wish to introduce myself briefly. I have been working on the bugs of openstack-manuals project since the Liberty release. And the most I fixed is the bugs of the Install Guide. In my opinion, Openstack is not very friendly with new hand. If they install their first openstack environment according to our Install Guide which may not be very accurate, she or he would be in a mess. I will continue to focus on document bugs whether as a reviewer or PTL. In this cycle, Alex( asettle) has coordinated the doc migration work [1]. I wish to take this opportunity to thank all members of the OpenStack community who partcipated in this work. We cannot achieve such seriously bug stuff without your cooperation. :) As you can see, we removed several guides from openstack-manuals project. There are still many things [2] we have not yet to accomplished after the doc migration. Some of these problems we already have solutions. But the others need to be discussed. We are welcome everyone to join in our discussion[3]. It would be wonderful if you can give us some ideas! If I am elected PTL of the Documentation project, my focuses for the coming release are to grow the Documentation team, keep the accuracy of documents, and work closely with other projects to help them imporve documents. I extracted translated strings from Ocata horizon translations and you can find it at [1]. The status is like this [2] and almost all fuzzy strings are caused by the addition of ' =' to existing strings, so the fix would be small. I am not sure how many folks are interested in keeping VPNaaS dashboard, but if you are interested to update translations feel free to update the review [1] or send me an updated version of your translation. With @amotoki's comment [1] and the discussion on the last IRC meeting yesterday [2], I18n team is fine and there will be no problem to accept the requests from I18n team's perspective. Note that String Freeze has been important for Docs & I18n team to acknowledge string freeze status and take appropriate actions of what needs to be changed to documentation and translation activities if needed. Since I18n team now more focuses on dashboard translations [1] and documents are being migrated [3], I think the importance of string freeze for server projects (e.g., cinder, nova, keystone, neutron) might be less important than previous cycle(s), but sharing the status to all the teams including release management team is a good idea to stay on the same page as much as possible :) With many thanks, /Ian, I18n team Ocata PTL. [docs][ptl] Candidacy for Docs

Hi all, I'd like to announce my candidacy for PTL of the docs project for Queens. I've been active in various open source documentation and translation projects since 2007 and started contributing to OpenStack docs during the Mitaka cycle, both upstream and in the RDO Project. The docs project has recently seen a significant decrease in both the number of submitted updates and contributors, but thanks to a group of dedicated people in the community, we've managed to come up with a clear plan to migrate docs over to individual projects, restructure them and reduce the scope to keep them maintainable. This is now well underway and I'd like to help the team and the community drive and continue with this work. In docs, we generally like to keep it rather short and simple, so let me summarize the main three points as follows: Support and help drive the remaining tasks in restructuring and/or moving content from the core docs suite. Help establish the docs team as content editors for individual project docs when needed or requested. Stay open and friendly to new contributors, no matter if they are prospective core members or drive-by docs contributors, with the understanding that docs are a great way to get involved in the project for both the non- and developers.
