Translation errors should be fixed in translate.openstack.org. Once it is fixed, horizon imports them automatically. It would be great if OpenStack TC and official project teams regard those translation contribution as ATC and APC of corresponding official projects, if I18n team stays as SIG. - Zanata (translation platform, instance: translate.openstack.org) open source is not maintained anymore. I18n team wanted to change translation platform to something other than Zanata [6] but current I18n team members don't have enough technical bandwidth to do that (FYI: Fedora team just started to migrate from Zanata to Weblate [7] - not easy stuff and non-small budget were agreed to use by Council). Regardless of I18n team's status as an official team or SIG, such migration to a new translation platform indeed needs the support from the current governance (TC, UC, Foundation, Board of Directors, ...). - Another my brief understanding on the difference between as an official team and as SIG from the perspective of Four Opens is that SIGs and working groups seems that they have some flexibility using non-opensource tools for communication. For example, me, as PTL currently encourage all the translators to come to the tools official teams use such as IRC, mailing lists, and Launchpad (note: I18n team has not migrated from Launchpad to Storyboard) - I like to use them and I strongly believe that using such tools can assure that the team is following Four Opens well. But sometimes I encounter some reality - local language teams prefer to use their preferred communication protocols. I might need to think more how I18n team as SIG communicates well with members, but I think the team members might want to more find out how to better communicate with language teams (e.g., using Hangout, Slack, and so on from the feedback) , and try to use better communication tools which might be comfortable to translators who have little background on development. Note that I have not discussed the details with team members - I am still open with my thoughts, would like to more listen to opinions from the team members, and originally wanted to expand the discussion with such perspective during upcoming PTG in Shanghai with more Chinese translators. [I18n] PTL Non-Candidacy

Hello I18n team, As announced by [1], now is U-cycle (Ussuri) PTL nomination period, and only less than 2 days are left from now. I will not run for I18n PTL for U-cycle because I am now serving as an PTL/TC election official and the role conflicts with running for PTL [2]. I ran for election official to better understand OpenStack ecosystem and more interact with community members, not to leave from I18n team. I will still stay around I18n team, but it would be so great if someone runs for I18n PTL on upcoming cycle. Also, I shared the current status of I18n team on last July [3]. If you have not read this, please read for more information. [I18n] project team status update regarding internationalization/translation as July 2019

Hello all, I would like to share current project team status for better visibility into I18n team members, copying to openstack-discuss and user-committee thread: 1. Translation and team effort status There are still lots of translation contribution as you see through Stackalytics: https://www.stackalytics.com/?metric=translations&release=train . The number of translated words is not larger than the previous cycle, but I estimate that it will be similar or a little bit less than the previous cycle since I18n usually contributes translations a lot especially during Soft & Hard StringFreeze periods. Note that I18n team currently sets higher priority on OpenStack user survey translation and project document translations. Such priorities information can be found on Zanata dashboard: https://translate.openstack.org/ . Other progress such as migrating Zanata into other translation platform seems slow - me and Frank are planning to have a virtual sprint. 2. Shanghai Summit & PTG preparation : Frank submitted his presentation including me and Hoarce (China team). Let's wait for final approval on presentation submission. : There should be PTG at Shanghai - please add your name and detail thinking to Etherpad mentioned in http://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/openstack-i18n/2019-July/003436.html . I strongly think to more encourage participation since I expect more participation especially from Chinese translators & contributors. 3. Updating ATC & AUC : Frank previously submitted extra-ATC for Stein through https://review.opendev.org/#/c/633398/ , and this time I would like to submit the stat calculation from 2019-01-26 to 2019-07-25. : All contributors who had commits on openstack/i18n repository will be automatically regarded as Active Technical Contributors [1], and I18n team would like to nominate all translators who contributed translations on OpenStack official repositories (https://governance.openstack.org/tc/reference/projects/ ) >= 300 words as extra-ATCs assuming that their Zanata e-mail IDs are registered as Foundation members. : All translators who contributed >=300 word tranlations to the following projects will be nominated as Active User Contributors [2] assuming that their Zanata e-mail IDs are registered as Foundation members: "contributor-guide, edge-computing, leveraging-containers-openstack, openstack-user-survey, operations-guide". Team status : Although I regularly be online during I18n (+Docs) IRC team meetings, I couldn't find enough quorum, and I couldn't proceed more deep conversation with language teams (usually no reply from my e-mails unfortunately). : Current I18n team core members seem busy but when I communicate with them, all they are still very supportive to I18n team projects. I really appreciate their kind help. : Also, I find that some translators are very active comparing to some inactive language coordinators. In this case, would it be a good idea to nominate them as language coordinators? [dev][horizon][docs][i18n]Horizon Taiwanese locale issue

Hi, There is an issue with Taiwanese locale at least in Horizon. It would be good to get a feedback from i18n team according to OpenStack docs too. Speaking about Horizon, Chinese locales were renamed in Django 1.7 [1]. Zh-cn became zh-Hans, and zh-tw became zh-Hant. Old names were marked as deprecated and finally removed in Django 1.11. Current supported Django versions are 1.11 and 2.0 [2] It is not an issue for Chinese because django locale middleware does silent fallback from zh-cn to zh-Hans. But for Taiwanese it treats zh-tw as some unknown variant of zh-* and also does fallback to default zh-cn, which is wrong. Reported bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+bug/1830886 Proposed solution is to migrate to new locale names everywhere in Horizon. Here are proposed steps to fix this issue: 1. Zanata jobs reconfiguration 2. Django-related backend stuff. Biggest, but easiest part because it is well documented 3. AngularJS. Quite old version is used, so we can hit some well forgotten issues. Also, testing is complicated. 4. Horizon.js components. It is the smallest part Other question will be thorougful testing of the bugfix. [I18n] Translation plan Train

Hello Stackers, hopefully you enjoyed the time during the Open Infra Summit and the PTG in Denver - onsite or remotely. Maybe you inspired also the spirit from something new which will start from now on. As usually we at I18n after release we merge translations back from stable branch to master and starting with a new translation plan [1]. Without a simple copy of the last one I investigated project status under the help of commits and the OpenStack Health Tracker. That's very helpful to see which projects are active and which one have a break, so we can adjust translation priority. At the end the translation plan will be a little bit shorter and we have enough space to onboard new stuff. Additional project docs are not decided yet. But we have the new projects outside OpenStack like Airship, StarlingX and Zuul and if you think on the next Summit in Shanghai and the target downstream users, a translated version of user interfaces or documentation might be useful. [PTG][I18n] Additional Virtual PTG scheduling

Hello, Although I shared my priorities as I18n PTL during Train cycle [1], I couldn't attend to the PTG at this time. There will be Docs+I18n PTG tomorrow in Denver with lots of discussions for more on cross-project collaboration with Docs team, and other teams, and I wanna join as remote on 16:00-17:00 according to [2] (thanks a lot, Frank!). I want to design an additional virtual PTG event, which some of other teams also design something similar as, but would like to plan somewhat differently to reflect I18n team members' geographical & language diversity as much as possible. Any translators, language coordinators, and contributors are welcome with the following cadence: - Please allocate your 30 minutes on May 2 (according to Denver timezone). - Please visit https://ethercalc.openstack.org/i18n-virtual-ptg-train and grasp how I18n Virtual PTG operates. - Choose your best time and write your name, country, preferred comm method, and notes by filling out cells on H19-K66. I will be online on IRC or Zoom (or please share your best communication method - I will follow as much as possible). This might be something different from general cadence on PTG, but I really hope that I18n team will have better communication through such activities. [PTG][Docs][I18n] Planning and time schedule

Dear fellow stackers, PTG for Train will held next week in Denver. I'm alredy here and I wouldn't say, I miss the train from Stapleton Station with all the noice. But I wouldn't miss the Train PTG in this lovely town in the U.S. It reminds me that diversity is still the greatest strength of our community. Well, for the different reasons I do not expect many team members to attend onsite, but some should be still there. The scheduled Docs/I18n day is regarding timetable [1] Thursday, May 02 2019. Weather forecast says sunny with 16 degrees - so no snow do expect. I've created an Etherpd and linked it on the main list [2]. Please feel free to add your name there and propose your topic. I spotted two things so far: - Documentation PDF support which is an official main goal for train - Migrate I18n translation platform back from Zanata There is no full planned timetable yet. Maybe we have during the day an onsite discussion and want to sync with remote guys at 16:00? EU is 8 hours ahead and Korea/Japan 15 hours [3]. Questions about Stein Dashboard UI translations

Hi Frank and all, I have a couple of questions about Horizon UI translation. Hope you can help me. 1. Is stable-stein version going to be created soon in Zanata? I noticed that the projects in github already have the new branch. 2. With Octavia Dashboard, I am not able to see Japanese translations in Horizon even though it is 100% completed in master. The import happens automatically, see: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/649909/ Once that one is merged, the translated page will be up. Normally, you should not care - we do and import every 24 hours which then gets fast review. So, after two days of changing, the information should be up. Good morning, in the first analyse I would say there are too few translations in summary for the project. It's true, there are a lower count of Korean translations, but that could result in a earlier translation phase with a smaller mount of strings in the whole book. [ptl][I18n][election] PTL Candidacy for Train

Hello, I am writing to announce my PTL candidacy of I18n for Train release. I served the PTL role on Ocata and Pike cycle, and have been great memory with last three release cycles with Frank who did so wonderful PTL activities. During Train cycle, I would like to do and collaborate with team members: * Helping to continue previous nice work (e.g., translation checksite, user-survey translation) * Investigating with Zanata's health and possible alternatives [1] * Communicating with translators and language coordinators * Sharing the voice from OpenStack teams with I18n team * Clean handover to the next PTL or discussing with team's direction (e.g., to a working group) I want to add the fourth part - as Frank wrote non-candicacy [2], it would be so great if the project gets fresh air. I don't think I am the part of fresh air since I also stayed in I18n team a lot like Frank. But it seems that I18n team needs more transition and hand-over period for a new PTL, or more discussion with team members might be needed to think about our team's direction such as changing the team status from an official team to a working group. Hello, following the release calendar PTL self-nomination starts today and I would like to announce my non-candidacy for the Train cycle. We reached a lot in the last three cycles: - Continous translation of OpenStack core projects - Translating whitepapers and User Survey for OSF - Setup translation check server and extend functionality - Start project doc translation We had a great time last year during Berlin Summit in Germany. Now it's up to rotate PTL role as it's thought to get fresh air in the project. I'm still part of the community and available for help as I18n and Docs core. But I also want to do something with research in AI/Machine Translation, to find useful use cases in the project. I would like to thank everyone who supported me over the years. Container Whitepaper translation is stuck

Hi, I am currently trying to translate and publish Container Whitepaper[1] in Japanese language, but the publishing process seems to be not good. We have completed its translation, but its publication is stopped as so far. I assume publication procedure is proceeded automatically when Zanata[2] indicator show 100% , but it have never been proceeded. Does anyone help us to proceed, if whitepaper translation needs manual steps. Other translated docs have been already published in Korean, German and Indonesian languages. [i18n][i18n-ar][horizon] Errors with Arabic translations

Hello ! Yesterday and this morning, the "propose-translation-update" job for Horizon failed due to some errors in Arabic translations : - [0] was due to an extra "\n" - [1] was due to missing translations [2] (msgstr 3 to 5 are mandatory if there are at least one non empty msgstr). After being added to the Arabic team, I removed the extra "\n" and marked translation [2] as fuzzy. I'm waiting for the friday build but it should be ok :). I hope it will help to fix similar failures in the future.
