[I18n] Translation plan & priorities for Rocky

Good morning, welcome to the Rocky translation release cycle! We merged today on our translation platform the stable-queens translations back to master and created a new translation dashboard on [1]. There are 19 projects identified for translation in Rocky. Please check your own project, if it meets your expectations. Furthermore we have 5 documentation projects still on the list [2]. There is a very good progress and only deltas are required to translate. Additional we have the translation for the Edge Computing Whitepaper still online [3]. If you are interested to have this in your language, please go ahead. New language version will be accepted. Early April we want to start with a new User Survey Translation. There will be very few changes. Due the upcoming Summit in Berlin we want to translate the results of the survey also, at least to German. Last but not least, as Petr mentioned yesterday evening on openstack-dev, our big goal for Rocky is project doc translation. We already talked to some project teams in Dublin and we're still in preparation before we can start. Zanata upgrade to version 4

Hello, the translation phase for Queens is just over. Many thanks for all that work during the cycle and translations in different OpenStack projects. We will take the chance now to upgrade our translation platform to a new version. We don't expect bigger issues because we tested the upgrade process anyway on translate-dev.openstack.org. [Bug 1556772] Re: Wrong plural formula for russian

One problem in Launchpad is that it is rather difficult to find this bug again for future reference. For bug purposes, yep I agree that it is much better to close this bug as "Fix Released" so I have just changed the status. I am not sure how to well document how to solve this bug in current I18n contributor guide, but I documented at least on Wiki: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/I18nTeam/Handling_Bugs . [I18n][PTL] PTL nomination for I18n

This is my announcement for re-candidacy as I18n PTL in Rocky Cycle. The time from the last cycle passed very fast. I had to manage all the things that a PTL expects. But we documented everything very well and I always had the full support of the team. I asked the team and it would continue to support me, which is why I take the chance again. This is the point to say thank you to all that we have achieved many things and we are a great community! Now it's time to finish things: 1. Zanata upgrade. We are in the middle of the upgrade process. The dev server is sucessfull upgraded and the new Zanata versions fits all our requirements to automate things more and more. Now we are in the hot release phase and when it's over, the live upgrade can start. 2. Translation check site. A little bit out of scope in Queens release because of lack of resources. We'll try this again in Rocky. 3. Aquire more people to the team. That will be the main part of my work as PTL in Rocky. We've won 3 new language teams in the last cycle and can Openstack serve in Indian, Turkish and Esperanto. There is even more potential for strengthening existing teams or creating new ones. For this we have great OpenStack events in Europe this year, at least the Fall Summit in Berlin. We plan workshops and presentations. The work of the translation team is also becoming more colorful. We have project documentation translation in the order books, translation user survey and white papers for working groups. We are well prepared, but we also look to the future, for example how AI-programming can support us in the translation work. If the plan suits you, I look forward to your vote. Request to add some dashboards to "Queens dashboard translation" group on Zanata

Hi, I would like to request to add the following dashboards to "Queens dashboard translation" group [1] on Zanata. They are all ready for use. * octavia-dashboard * neutron-fwaas-dashboard * neutron-vpnaas-dashboard neutron-fwaas-dashboard and neutron-vpnaas-dashboard were previously part of horizon, so I think translators can recover translation easily. octavia-dashboard is a successor of neutron-lbaas-dashboard and most strings are same as those in neutron-lbaas-dashboard. Zanata 4.3.3 on translate-dev.openstack.org

Hello Translation Team, I'm happy to announce some good news before the weekend. Through the tireless work of the Infra Team we have now Zanata 4.3.3 on the ramp and is testable on [1]. Due the switch of OpenID provider in the past the database was confused and much people were not able to login anymore. This is now fixed, a fresh database was installed within this version. Please register new and let me know what are you needed. I installed 2 projects and some few languages. Especially we have to test the new software and functionality, of course. Another good news: I18n Extra-ATCs for Queens were delivered in time [2]. The data are collected by Zanata Stats API and to corresponding rules created this proposal. Let me know if you have any questions or hints. And don't forget: We're are few weeks until release and translation phase will start in the beginning of next month. tools problem with networking-bgpvn

Looking at failures, I see http://logs.openstack.org/periodic/git.openstack.org/openstack/networking-b… Problem is: + git status On branch proposals Changes not staged for commit: (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) modified: networking_bgpvpn_heat/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/networking_bgpvpn_heat.po and then git review fails because of modified local files. I'm puzzled why the logic is not working with this repository. Could anybody else dig into this, please? Problems with Arabic horizon translation

Looking at http://logs.openstack.org/periodic/git.openstack.org/openstack/horizon/stab… I see that the ar files are broken. Looks like Arabic has 6 plural forms but the file only translates the first two. Yasir, could you look into all these plural forms, please? [I18n] Team meeting today

Good morning, I know, I forgot to sent out the meeting reminder, but at the end it's only a reminder for our regular team meeting weekly. Schedules and a link to an ics file can you found at [1]. Due the fact we had very few participants today I would like to share some information here: 1. Zanata-Upgrade. We've got the initial merge in puppet-zanata (thx to the infra-team) and at the moment I test again the upgrade procedure. 2. Restore Mitaka documentation by the docs-team. It's done. Now we're missing some language specific landing pages, i.e. [2]. We can discuss how to handle this in general. Or feel free to start a proposal. 3. PTG is coming! Next Project Teams Gathering will held in Dublin, Ireland. In February 2018. Please share your ideas on [3]. As ususaly we will together with the docs-team, so at the end we have one merged agenda. Could you disable django_openstack_auth *master* version?

Hi OpenStack Zanata admin, Could you disable django_openstack_auth *master* version? During the Queens development cycle, horizon team merges django_openstack_auth code into the main horizon tree. This means the master branch of django_openstack_auth will not be used for development anymore. Note that this request only applies to the master version in Zanata. The stable branches (stable/pike and stable/ocata) are still used for maintenance. In addition, I also suggest to drop django_openstack_auth from "Queens dashboard translation" group. New Language Team for Esperanto

Hi, is it possible to start a new language team for Esperanto, language code "eo" (ISO639-1) I would like to contribute, but cannot see Esperanto yet in the list of languages on Zanata. So could you pls add Esperanto as language for openstack project translations ? [I18n] Language landing pages with draft translated documents

Hello, As you already know, https://docs.openstack.org/ also has multiple language landing pages :) Previously, there were http://docs.openstack.org/draft/draft-index.html page which contains the links of both draft documents and draft translated document. Since the page does not exist anymore, I would like to suggest a new policy for language landing pages: - Language landing pages can have draft translated documents with the agreement of I18n team PTL, Docs/I18n team core reviewers, language coordinators or active language team translators. The patch https://review.openstack.org/#/c/520997/ reflects this new policy with syncing current translation ratio including translated release notes and translated user survey link. The patch is currently WIP because I do not know many other languages - I would like to kindly ask language teams to tell translated strings to complete the patch :) Also I especially appreciate Indonesian and Turkish language team whose documentation translation ratio is very high! [I18n] survey about translation of project repo documentation

The doc migration is almost done and now it's a good time to start. But there are a lot's of projects and the state of things is different. Hello, unfortunatelly you have overseen my switch of the meeting time today or you're still in traveling or jetlag and couldn't attend the team meeting. The future of language coordinator

Hello, this week I had a conversation with Ian about the future of language coordinators and how to improve the communication within the team. I checked the Zanata user management and did some changes for different language teams. 1. In some teams Daisy was configured as a language coordintaor. Maybe as you know: She invented the I18n team and did an incredible job. But her priorities have changed and as we say in our country: life goes on. So I removed the account from such kind of language teams. 2. If there are no team members left, the language teams are empty. This avoids uncertainties when new people contact the language coordinator and then receive no response. 3. If there are one team member in such kind of team: Congrats! Now you are the new language coordindator! Please read in the I18n guide on [1] what roles in language team mean and how to deal as a language coordinator. 4. Other language teams are untouched. But we have still accounts from inactive members configured and (this is the real issue) inactive language coordinators with active team members. Under the help of Stackalytics [2] I will try to investigate the situation in the different language teams.
