[oslo] Project leadership
Hi all, As you may have noticed, we had no nominees for Oslo PTL again this cycle. I said in my non-candidacy email that I don't think it would be appropriate for me to continue in the position given the lack of attention I've been paying over the past couple of cycles. My feelings on that have not changed, so we need to figure out what we're going to do from here on. The general consensus from the people I've talked to seems to be a distributed model. To kick off that discussion, here's a list of roles that I think should be filled in some form: * Release liaison * Security point-of-contact * TC liaison * Cross-project point-of-contact * PTG/Forum coordinator * Meeting chair * Community goal liaison (almost forgot this one since I haven't actually been doing it ;-). I've probably missed a few, but those are the the ones I came up with to start. Obviously there's overlap between some of them, and we don't have that many people on the team so there's going to be some combined roles. It's also possible some roles could be handled cooperatively by the team (we already have a coresec team, for example), but in general I favor explicit assignments over vague "somebody will do it" statements. That said, given my reduced role on the team I don't know how much say I get in the matter. :-) Anyway, I wanted to get this sent out because I'm going to be out on PTO next week so I won't be available for the meeting. Feel free to discuss it in my absence though. Thanks. -Ben

The TC resolution on distributed project leadership also includes a recommended list of liaison roles, though it's basically what you outlined above: https://governance.openstack.org/tc/resolutions/20200803-distributed-project... -- Jeremy Stanley
Hello, First, thanks Ben for this email. I'm personally in favor of experimenting with the DPL on oslo during W. If nobody wants the release liaison role then I volunteer to keep this role during W. I also volunteer to become the meeting chair if nobody else wants that role, we need to ensure that we continue to run our weekly meetings, especially with a distributed governance model. I think that our core members can match well with the majority of listed roles and they can easily assume some of these who are not yet assigned. Also to continue with this topic we need to follow the related process [1], Ben do you plan to submit the related patch? Hello, According to our latest meeting/discussions I submitted a patch [1] to move oslo under the DPL governance model. Indeed a few weeks ago Ben officially announced his stepping down from its role of oslo PTL [2], at this point nobody volunteered to become the new PTL of oslo during Wallaby. Accordingly to our latest discussions [3] and our latest meeting [4] we decided to adopt the DPL governance model [5]. Accordingly to this governance model we assigned the required roles [6][7]. During the lastest oslo meeting we decided to create groups of paired liaison [7], especially for release liaison role and the TaCT SIG liaison role [6][7]. To continue the DPL process this patch [1] should be validated by the current PTL (Ben) and all liaison people [7]. Final note, I would like to personally thank Ben for assuming the PTL role during the previous cycles and for the works he have done at this position and for oslo in general, especially during the previous cycle where he was a volunteer even if oslo wasn't its main topic at work. Thanks hberaud, we need few changes in governance tooling and schema to implement the DPL model. I have pushed the below change to do that, you can fill the liaisons for DPL model in the new subfield of 'Liaisons' field. https://review.opendev.org/#/c/757966/1 NOTE, we can make the projects data schema more strict but that can be done later and to facilitate the oslo change 757966 should be fine. -gmann

I'm either foolish or dedicated because this is the second time I've worked on Oslo while not really being paid for it. Determining which is more accurate is left as an exercise for the reader. ;-)
