Hi,

I took a look at the Dell PowerEdge R370xd Rack Server web page, http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/povw/poweredge-r730xd.  It states that Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (W2K8 R2) is supported.

From what you described, it sounds like the issue is that W2K8 R2 does not have the device drivers needed for the RAID controller.  I found a Dell OS Driver Pack for W2K8 R2 web page, http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=MRW6J&fileId=1943535120&osCode=W12R2&productCode=poweredge-r730xd&languageCode=en&categoryId=DD.  Please note that it states that it does not support W2K8 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1).  A driver pack download is available there.  The installation instructions on that page are a bit involved; you may have to copy the file to a USB driver, plug the USB into the server, boot into the Lifecycle Controller, etc., etc.

In the end, while Dell supports that operating system on that server, it does not look like ironic will unless you can make a QCOW2 image that has the necessary device drivers in it.  I am not sure how exactly to do that.  It might be easier to just go with Microsoft Windows Server 2016, which probably has the necessary drivers, since there is no OS driver pack for that operating system on the Dell support site.

         Does R730xd support windows2008r2 sp1?I deploy the user image success,but it can’t be step in windows system,then I try to install window2008 with local image(xxx.iso). I can not continue because of it can’t find no-raid disk or virtual disk which made by raid configure.
        Can you give me some suggestion?

I have never seen that error.  It does not appear to be specific to the iDRAC driver.

I recommend using IRC for help with this one.

I was in #openstack-ironic all day,but nobody can answer my question about drac-driver.maybe I should read the code to know how  process run. Ironic-conductor.log haven’t any error info about process timeout.

Yes, the ironic iDRAC drivers support Dell 13G servers, including the PowerEdge 730xd.

Regarding the current issue, please take a look at the Ironic Conductor log to gain some insight into what caused node cleaning to fail.  It is located in /var/log/ironic.

I have already fix the network,but it still have some problem. When I make the node status to provide, I can see the deploy image boot in the node,and the deploy system seems OK in the DELL server node.But it’s motionless.After for a long time, the deploy system shutdown and ironic show me the node clean failed. The reason is time out. I don’t know why

I configure NIC port ， I can ping into the Ip which configured by DHCP .but I can't ping into the gateway .may be I should fix this first

Hi,

It sounds like the server is not attempting to PXE boot.  The iDRAC web client’s console feature can be used to determine that.  Has a network interface card (NIC) port been configured to PXE boot?

Hi:
Do you have any documents about drac driver configuration? When I use CLI to make My environment in provide,the server setp in a system which I install use local image.for a long time, the node provision_state is clean failed. The maintenance_reason is “Timeout reached while cleaning the node. Please check if the ramdisk     responsible for the cleaning is running on the node. Failed on step {}.”
I don’t know how to fix it
