[openstack-dev] [Openstack] [Nova] Compute node restart with out destroying VMs

Hi All,

I am using the openstack folsom release. I am trying to validate some
failure cases in openstack. As part of that, I launched 4 VMs in a compute
node. After that, I rebooted the compute node. After rebooting nova compute
service is running properly. Also, the openvswitch is running properly(we
are using openvswitch instead of linux bridge).

But, I observed VMs were not able to ping each other. I observed only for
one of the VMs the tap interface got created. For, the rest of the VMs tap
interface was not created. Even after rebooting the VMs, the same behaviour
is observed. At this moment, I launched another instance. When I did that,
I observed the tap interfaces for all the VMs including previously launched
VMs. Now, I am able to ping another VMs.

Please explain me the behavior of Nova compute in this case and Nova
compute restart in general. Any help in understanding this behavior is
highly appreciated.
