Horizon translation status update for Havana
Hi all, Thanks for your translation effort for Havana RC1 release. RC1 release starts and Horizon RC1 is coming soon. It contains translations of ~100% translated languages. I really appreciate your work!! == Extra translation request == Horizon made several number of fixes in RC1 phase and there are several changes in translation strings. I just synced POT files with the latest Horizon master repository and pushed them to Transifex. == Schedule for Havana Horizon RC2 (not determined yet) == I will request another Release Candidate (RC2) to import translations. The exact plan will be discussed with Gabriel, Horizon PTL from now. My current plan is to import translation updates at the middle next week. I will let you all know if there is an update. Thanks, Akihiro MOTOKI <amotoki@gmail.com>

Let's hope not many new strings will come between RC1 and the next release. There are some patches on gerrit which do implement new strings, but they should be pretty easy to handle. I wonder has there been any discussion on enforcing a stricter string freeze policy in OpenStack? Theoretically according to the release schedule string freeze was on the 7th of September :) Maybe we can do some enforcement either in gerrit via a "i18n accepted" flag enabled after the last milestone or some gate tests for new strings? Just a thought though... Have a nice day, -- Łukasz [DeeJay1] Jernaś P.S. Great suggestion to actually enforce a string freeze if you ask me. As if the abundance of inconsistencies and duplicate strings in the English source doesn't make working on translations hard enough... Tom 2013/10/2 Łukasz Jernaś <deejay1@srem.org>

Hi, I discussed with Gabriel, Horizon PTL and we haven't determined the exact date of the next RC because we would like to have a couple of days for broader testing using RC1 release. Horizon team is aware of the necesity of translation updates for Havana release. I think the middle of the next week is a reasonable target date to catch up in translations.
Let's hope not many new strings will come between RC1 and the next release. There are some patches on gerrit which do implement new strings, but they should be pretty easy to handle.
According to the general OpenStack project management based on my experience as a core dev, after RC1 is released, the criteria of merging a patch is raised and core reviewers become very conservative. I saw just a few string changes in the past release.
Good point. It is an important point from I18N perspective. It should be discussed and improved for the next release. "String Freeze" at the last milestone doesn't seem to work to me. The last milestone is just "Feature Freeze" and it does not mean the code stability and good quality, and not a small number of fixes will be done after the last milestone. The number of bugs in Horizon is small compared to other projects but 87 bugs are fixed. Many strings changes except FFE blueprints just come from bug fixes (including inappropriate descriptions) This is what happened in RC1. Hi Daisy, I can't say there is another import of translations before Havana release and I would like to avoid another candidate only to update translation. I guessit will be the last one according to the current status of release critical bugs and IMO new language addition of translations is not high or critical at this last moment. If so, it is much better to ask to delay RC2 release for a while. We also need to honor the required effort for releasing another RC. Theoretically according to the release schedule string freeze was on the 7th of September :) Maybe we can do some enforcement either in gerrit via a "i18n accepted" flag enabled after the last milestone or some gate tests for new strings? Just a thought though...

P.S. Yes, I know I'm new to the community and may sometimes come out as a "know it all" type of guy - please know that it certainly isn't my intention!

There is no milestone before Havana release now. Xiao wei, do you want to include this partly finished traditional Chinese translation in this version? You are the coordinator. You can make decision whether to include the translation even not completely finished. Regards Ying Chun Guo (Daisy) 張效維 <zero00072@gmail.com> wrote on 2013/10/09 16:16:18:

I can't say there is another import of translations before Havana

and I would like to avoid another candidate only to update translation. I guessit will be the last one according to the current status of release critical bugs and IMO new language addition of translations is not high or critical at this last moment.
If so, it is much better to ask to delay RC2 release for a while. We also need to honor the required effort for releasing another RC.
The last update of strings was last week and there is no plan to change the strings. I don't see any progress in Chinese Taiwan about for a week on Transifex. Do you know the progress from Chinese Taiwan team?

Hi all, I see great progress in Chinese Taiwan. It is worth part of Havana release. I also see French translation completed again and a minor cleanup in some languages. Thanks you all! @Daisy, I prepared a script to import and all other preparations have been completed. By using the script, I can prepare the patch in a short time, so I will pick up translations from Transifex tomorrow in my spare time. @Xiaowei, Please let us know if you feel zh_TW translation ready to go. It looks ready to me, but I can't read it I can import it in a spare time tomorrow and propose a patch. (Note that my timezone is Japan) Thanks, Akihiro On Wed, Oct 9, 2013 at 9:33 PM, Akihiro Motoki <amotoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Daisy,
Thanks for the update.
Unfortunately I cannot take time to do the import after Thursday afternoon. If someone volunteers to do this, we can delay the import. Otherwise I posted the import patch tonight.
I can send a mail to Gabriel and after that I hope you would like to follow the progress. I think it is a request from you as I18N lead.
I already did my best and would not like to take more time on such coordination at this moment.

Hi Daisy,
I can't say there is another import of translations before Havana
release
and I would like to avoid another candidate only to update translation.

== Schedule for Havana Horizon RC2 (not determined yet) == I will request another Release Candidate (RC2) to import translations. The exact plan will be discussed with Gabriel, Horizon PTL from now.

Hi François, Thanks for letting me know. French translation looks good enough. Nice work! Regards, Akihiro On Wed, Oct 9, 2013 at 5:11 PM, François Bureau <francois.bureau@cloudwatt.com> wrote:

Hi,
Horizon RC2 is now being prepared. I am preparing a patch to import the latest translations from Transifex.
* French translation has 14 untranslated phrases. Is it okay to import them as-is? If you are translating, please let me know. I can wait for several hours before uploading the patch.
* Russian team has completed the translations. Congrats! I will import it.
We have complete translations for 11 languages in Havana release. Thanks for your great work!
Regards, Akihiro

Hi all,
Hi Akihiro!
Thanks for the work you and Daisy were doing to make this happen!
