Hi all, As discussed in the last horizon weekly meeting[1] on 2021-06-23, I would like to announce that the horizon team decided to make stable/queen branch as EOL. Consider this mail as an official announcement for that. I would like to know if anyone still would like to keep this branch to be open otherwise, I will purpose an EOL patch for this branch. PowerDNS admin Configuration for making a bind server

Now is a good time to review those plans and reprioritize anything if needed based on what progress has been made and what looks realistic to complete in the next few weeks. General Information ------------------- Looking ahead to the end of the release cycle, please be aware of the feature freeze dates. Those vary depending on deliverable type: * General libraries (except client libraries) need to have their last feature release before Non-client library freeze (August 19). Their stable branches are cut early. * Client libraries (think python-*client libraries) need to have their last feature release before Client library freeze (September 2, 2021) * Deliverables following a cycle-with-rc model (that would be most services) observe a Feature freeze on that same date, September 2, 2021. Any feature addition beyond that date should be discussed on the mailing-list and get PTL approval. [nova] Milestone 2 - spec freeze

Hi, Yesterday we hit Xena Milestone 2. This also means nova is now in a state of spec freeze. The Yoga spec directory already exists so specs that are not merged to Xena can be propose to Yoga already. I've updated the bp states in launchpad[1]. Please check your bps and let me know if I missed something or misunderstood the status of the implementation work. We have 20 open bps at the moment which is a lot. Please note that Milestone 3 and therefore feature freeze is 3rd of September, which is 7 weeks from now. Setting bandwidth limit

Hi, I am running openstack victoria installed using packstack. Everything things to be fine except bandwidth limit. I have tried to limit internal traffic between two instances and between instances and "Internet" but I always get maximum data transfer speed. I have set up following rules openstack network qos rule create --type bandwidth-limit --max-kbps 3 --max-burst-kbits 2 --ingress bw-choke openstack network qos rule create --type bandwidth-limit --max-kbps 3 --max-burst-kbits 2 --egress bw-choke and applied bw-choke policy to the internal network where my instances are deployed: openstack network set --qos-policy bw-choke newdeploylab_private_network and to ports where machines connect to subnet: openstack port set --qos-policy bw-choke 503a07b8-2da0-4abe-8251-ede648ba42b4 openstack port set --qos-policy bw-choke 776d5fb3-639c-47cc-9b0f-6ec855397df7 but nothing happens. Each time I try to download something from internet or copy data from an instance to another I always get maximum data transfer speed. Hey everyone, The Xena cycle is going by fast, and it's already time to start planning some of the early things for the Yoga release. One of the first steps for that is actually deciding on the release schedule. Typically we have done this based on when the next Summit event was planned to take place. Due to several reasons, we don't have a date yet for the first 2022 event. The current thinking is it will likely take place in May (nothing is set, just an educated guess, so please don't use that for any other planning). So for the sake of figuring out the release schedule, we are proposing one schedule targeting a release date at the end of March. Hopefully this will then align well with event plans. [neutron][vpnaas] Ok with V. not working with W.

Hello, i have been trying to fix a problem for over 2 weeks with no success so am looking for some help as my openstack is due to work in september (for my students). I need the vpnaas service. I'm doing a lab with centos / kolla-ansible / victoria ... vpnaas works, exactly what I need. I replace V with Wallaby. Exactly the same server, the same Centos, I just change V to W in the configuation file. Everything works except Vpnaas. I have a new server, and for some reason I can't have Victoria (issue with horizon that I don't understand). I'm trying Wallaby. Everything works perfectly except Vpnaas. Why ? It's incomprehensible. A bug ? [kolla] Ceph client version in Kolla 12.0.0 Wallaby and ubuntu containers

Hi, We've been using Kolla to provision a production cluster and we've noticed that the ceph-client version provided in the Kolla images is severely outdated as it doesn't support the fix to CVE-2021-20288 that was added in Pacific 16.2.1 (installed version in image is 16.2.0). As a result, the installed ceph-client can't connect to ceph clusters where the patch is active. Is there any Kolla image where more recent versions of ceph-client is installed? [nova] [magnum] Flavor names vs IDs

Hi, Flavors have both names ands IDs and both can be set during creation - what is the background for having both being separate from each other? I'm asking this because magnum uses flavor id for it's "instance-type" node annotation (which is understandable) and by default flavor ID is an autogenerated UUID. [kolla] multiple ceph backends

Hi, I'm progressing in figuring out Kolla and I've hit another issue. On our regular setups, we happen to be using multiple Ceph backends in cinder. Each of those backend uses a differently named ceph config file (like ceph.conf and ceph-rep.conf). While adding a custom configuration to cinder.conf is pretty easy, what's the best way to ensure that my second ceph config file ends up in my containers at the correct path? Hello Everyone, As you may have noticed I have pushed a series of patches[1] in the last few months to drop nodejs10 support from our gate job because nodejs10 is already EOL. All horizon plugins and horizon moved to nodejs14 which is the current LTS version also runtime for the Xena release[2]. Next Step is to drop nodejs10 support, only two horizon plugins left that still run nodejs10 job i.e openstack/heat-dashboard and opensatck/murano-dashboard. So I would request to heat and murano core team to approve open patches for the same [3], [4] and then we can finally drop it from the horizon. [all] Request to fix the warning to reduce the log size

Hello Everyone, As you might have noticed the discussion in infra channel, log size are increasing a lot and one of the main reasons is warnings (especially repeatedly warnings). Few of them are from oslo policy on new policy and DeprecdatedRule. However, those are not the only warnings, there are lot from other lib also. Before we start facing more issues in logging system and indexing, we would request all the project team to start looking at the logs and fix the warnings as much as possible. Hi, Is there a comprehensive listing of the nodes available for use in Zuul CI? I looked through the listing here: https://zuul.opendev.org/t/openstack/nodes not sure if that list is complete? More specifically I'm trying to find out if any s390x nodes exist. Signs point to no, but I'm just trying to be sure. Take care when deleting email addresses in Gerrit

Hello everyone, We have discovered a bug in Gerrit [0] that allows you to delete your account's Ubuntu One OpenID association if you delete the email from your account associated with that OpenID. When you do this the next time you log in Gerrit will create a new account for you. Fixing this after the fact is currently difficult. We are working to correct this but the required corrections take time. We would like to avoid these issues in the first place. Please avoid deleting email addresses from your accounts unless you are sure they are not associated with your OpenID. If you would like help double checking that for you please let us know and one of our Gerrit admins can double check. We are working to make this fixable after the fact, and will try to work with the Gerrit upstream to prevent you from deleting Ubuntu One OpenID associations from your account in the first place. Until then we apologize for the inconvenience. Finally, this message and others like it are sent to service-announce(a)lists.opendev.org. We are aware that some users may require firewall updates or similar to access the new server. Hello Cinder team and anyone interested in Cinder development, It's time to determine when we will be meeting for the Yoga PTG, which takes place 18-22 October. We are asked to schedule within the following 3 blocks of 4 hours each: - 14:00-08:00 UTC - 13:00-17:00 UTC - 21:00-01:00 UTC with the following constraints: - no project should schedule more than 4 hours in a single day - no project should schedule more than 16 hours over the entire PTG Given the current cinder-core team's distribution across time zones, it looks to me like the best bet is to use (as we have for the past few Virtual PTGs) the 13:00-17:00 UTC time slot. So I propose that the cinder team meet 13:00-17:00 UTC on the four days Tuesday 19 October through Friday 22 October 2021. We'll schedule topics from 13:00-16:00 UTC, with 16:00-17:00 available for slack space for discussion overruns or happy hour. [nova][stable] Adding nova-core to nova stable branches

Happy Friday (again), Following on from my earlier email regarding os-vif stable branch permissions, I'd like to once again propose that we add nova-core to the list of teams with +2 rights on nova stable branches. Unlike the os-vif change, this has been discussed extensively in the past, most recently during the Victoria PTG [1] (search for "Can we add nova-core to nova-stable-maint") and therefore carries a little more baggage with it. Last time we discussed this, there were concerns from some existing stable cores that not all of nova-core were sufficiently well acquainted with stable branch policy and it was suggested that review velocity was sufficient. However, the stable team has remained pretty stable (heh) over the last couple of cycles and is staffed with developers with ample experience of both nova itself and the backport policies of nova and OpenStack as a whole. In addition, we continue to have a long tail of open stable reviews [2] from various people. The stable branches are increasingly important for users and organizations alike, and a faster, smoother backport policy encourages people to have an upstream-first mentality when it comes to maintaining a product built on these branches. The alternative is to handle these backports in a downstream-first or downstream- only manner, which results in duplication of effort and, over the long-term, potential difficulties keeping downstream and upstream in-sync. I think the time has long since passed where we should remove the artificial barrier that exists here. I expect all nova cores will have the maturity and sensibility to ask questions where uncertainty exists and only approve backports that they are confident and knowledgeable about. I do not expect existing stable cores will be sidelined either. Far from it, in fact. Existing stable cores will continue to be valuable both for their reviews and knowledge of the intricacies of stable policy. I proposed a waiting period of one week before making changes to os-vif permissions, but given the history around changes to nova stable core, I think we would benefit from some additional time to assuage any concerns that may still exist. I propose that we come to a decision by 09-Aug, or two weeks from now. If necessary, we can discuss this in real-time during the nova team meeting next Tuesday. Hi Team, Whenever a new version of openstack is released in the market, Kayobe also updates its release accordingly. I was going through the installation guide and found Kayobe is dependent on Kolla-Ansible as well. The link https://docs.openstack.org/kayobe/latest/contributor/releases.html suggests that kayobe needs to Synchronise with Kolla Ansible feature flags Synchronise with Kolla Ansible inventory¶ <https://docs.openstack.org/kayobe/latest/contributor/releases.html#synchron…> So in case openstack releases it's newer version, does kayobe wait for kolla-ansible to update to the new release and then starts upgrading its release? Hello, I am new user for openstack kolla because I installed openstack writing my ansible Playbooks. I wonder if it is a method to check if new images has been released . For example: I installed kolla wallaby 2 weeks ago, and now I want to check if new images could be updated. I want to check if new images solve some bugs. Cinder community members, especially cinder-core: First, thanks to Rajat, who has reviewed this patch carefully, as evidenced by his 32 comments on patch set 4 and his re-review of patch set 6. We need to get https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/cinder/+/792299/ reviewed and merged. It's holding up some feature work, as people rightly don't want to touch v2 if it's going to be removed, but aren't sure how serious we are that there will be no v2 in the Xena release, so they're not sure what to submit. The v2 API has been deprecated since Pike [0], and at this point it looks like all consuming projects have switched to using v3. But we need to get this change merged and released now at M-2 so we can discover whether there's anything we missed while it's still relatively early in the cycle. So please look at https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/cinder/+/792299/ . If you are pressed for time, be creative and make a deal with another reviewer or two so that each of you reivews half (or a third, or whatever). I need your help with installation of placement service on Ubuntu 20.04. I could not find any policy.json on my machine. I created an empty policy.json at: /etc/placement/policy.json (user and group = placement). That too did not work. I have followed the steps in the install guide twice, deleting the placement database and other resources and recreating them. I continue to see the same issue. Thank you for your time.

[ patrole ] Understanding RBAC Permission Exceptions

Hello, I am a researcher studying security of the Openstack's Policies. I'm very interested in the Patrole project and I would like to ask you some questions. In the documentation it is stated that Patrole compares two different types of results: - an expected one ( derived from oslo.policy ) - an actual one ( derived from an actual request to the API ). Given that, Patrole's tests can return 3 different values: 1) "Success" if actual result and expected result are both True or both False; 2) "RbacOverPermissionException" if actual result is True but expected result is False; 3) "RbacUnderPermissionException" in the other case. I can't understand in which cases the tests can return a value different from "Success". As far as I know, an API call should always be validated internally by oslo.policy's rules, before being allowed. So, in order for an API call to be accepted, oslo.policy's rules must allow that API call. It seems to me that the "expected" result ( derived from oslo.policy ) is always included in the actual result. Hoping that everything I said is correct, I would like to ask you: What issue is allowing such a strange behavior in Openstack APIs ? Why the expected results can be different from the actual ones? Are there publicly available examples showing "Failure" values? In general, are there any publicly available test cases that i can study to understand this?
