Hello, As you might know, Block Storage API v2 was deprecated during Pike cycle and now cinder is removing that deprecated API completely in current Xena. However unfortunately there are some projects still using volume v2 API and especially the recent bump of python-cinderclient[1], which completely removes cinderclient.v2, broke such usage. [kolla][kolla-ansible] Query regarding Kolla Image Tag vs Release name

Hi Team, I am installing Openstack using Kolla-Ansible. I have following queries: 1. Tag 11.0.0 corresponds to the Openstack Victoria release. On docker hub,There are 2 types of tag for a particular kolla image - One with the Tag name and other Release name. docker pull kolla/centos-binary-ironic-pxe:victoria docker pull kolla/centos-binary-ironic-pxe:11.0.0 Image for Tag 11.0.0 was updated 6 months ago whereas for Victoria release the image is updated 4 days ago. To deploy kolla ansible in the production environment, what should we set in openstack_release field in globals.yml - tag number or release name ? 2. For wallaby Release, there is no tag 12.0.0 defined in docker hub kolla images. Is there any plan to specify kolla images with tag for wallaby or not? Regards Anirudh Gupta

[cloudkitty] No indexes in the rated_data_frames table

Hi, Very fast, with only a few resources, the rated_data_frames tables becomes huge. I was very surprised to see there's absolutely zero index in this table. Isn't a "openstack rating dataframes get" querying this table, with tenant_id and begin / end as filters? Wouldn't the API calls be a lot more efficient with such indexes? Unable to Mount LVM data volume when uploading qcow2 files

Members, We are in need of migrating of VMs from another vendor who has hosted all the VMs on their host machine using KVM. hypervisor. No OpenStack they are using. We want to migrate these VMs to our fresh OpenStack Ussuri environment setup with two host machine which using KVM and Debian as Host Operating System. ( The VMs are in RedHat,CentOS and Windows machines ) The vendor has provided each VM as Three files(qcow2 files). Because they are using additional disks for each partition. They are telling us they can provide this way only. They are unable to provide as single file( I'm also not sure whether there is a way to get it as single file ? ) The existing Vendor provides the files for each VM as follows. 1. First file is Operating Sytem ( CentOS) qcow2 image 2. Second file is Boot file system as qcow2 image. 3. Third file is data volume(LVM data also qcow2 image) : The data volume which contains the application data. When we are uploding these files to OpenStack glance using Horizon dashboard the first two files Operating Sytem and boot files are detected for the VM. But the Third file unable to attach. Its not detecting. So I tried manually mount the data volume in command line but it throws error "unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member' #mount /dev/vdc2 /mnt/ mount:unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member' // here vdc2 is the data volume in question. // /dev/vda1 is the OS partion which when uploaded to glance through horizon no error in mounting. similarly /dev/vdc1 the boot partion also able to attach through horizon dash board. Only the data volume is not getting attached and when manually tried to mount that volume /dev/vdc2 throws the error "mount:unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member' " How to resolve this issue ? whats the root cause ? Hi, Cinder merged the removal of the block storage v2 API[1]. This broke the openstacksdk-functional-devstack job blocking at least the nova and openstack-sdk gate[2] due to test cases in the job still trying to test the v2 API. Dear all I am afraid I have something wrong in the setup of rabbit, and I would appreciate your help. We have a single rabbit cluster for all the OpenStack services. It is a cluster composed by 3 instances (now running rabbitmq-server-3.8.16 and erlang-24.0.2). We are using this setting: cluster_partition_handling = pause_minority to handle partitions, and we are using this policy: [root@cld-rbt-01 ~]# rabbitmqctl list_policies Listing policies for vhost "/" ... vhost name pattern apply-to definition priority / ha-all ^(?!amq\.).* all {"ha-mode":"all"} 0 In the conf files of the OpenStack services we have these settings related to Rabbit: transport_url = rabbit://openstack_prod:xxx@192.168.60.220:5672, openstack_prod:xxx@192.168.60.221:5672, openstack_prod:xxx@192.168.60.222:5672 rabbit_ha_queues = true >From time to time rabbit complains about some network partitions (still not clear why): 2021-07-02 08:12:55.715 [error] <0.463.0> Partial partition detected: * We saw DOWN from rabbit@cld-rbt-02 * We can still see rabbit@cld-rbt-03 which can see rabbit@cld-rbt-02 * pause_minority mode enabled We will therefore pause until the *entire* cluster recovers and when this happens Openstack services are of course impacted. As soon as I can check the cluster status, rabbitmqctl cluster_status doesn't complain about any problems (i.e. it doesn't report any network partitions and it reports all nodes running) but the problems on the OpenStack services are still there (e.g. "neutron agent-list" report many agents down). Also I think we should discuss how many slots we need. In the last two PTGs we tried finish our etherpad in 3 days x 4 hour slots. But in both cases some overtime was needed. [Kolla] [ Kolla-Ansible] Kolla Ansible Downgrade Issue

Hi Team, I installed Kolla-Ansible release 12.0.0, i.e. wallaby on multinode setup, and then downgraded Kolla-Ansible to release 11.0.0, i.e. Victoria, following the below-mentioned link: https://docs.openstack.org/kolla-ansible/latest/user/operating-kolla.html I downgraded Kolla-Ansible by running the command "*pip install --upgrade kolla-ansible==6.0.0*" and, changing "openstack_release: victoria" in globals.yml. But, "*kolla-ansible upgrade*" failed with the below error (Error also attached in the mail) : "alembic.util.exc.CommandError: Can't locate revision identified by 'wallaby_contract01'" Could you please suggest if the downgrade is supported in Kolla-Ansible? Slaweq reported the below bug and trying some neutron revert to know the root cause. [kolla][glance][cinder] issues with show_image_direct_url and show_multiple_locations in wallaby

Hi, As you might already know if you read this mailing list, I've been trying to push Kolla into production for a while. This issue however might be more Glance and Cinder related than Kolla. We're trying to provision an Openstack Wallaby cluster on Ubuntu using Kolla and Ceph pacific. The issue I now have is that, if I try to provision a Ceph volume from an image stored in Ceph, I get the following error : https://pastebin.com/59EZbxKu By looking around a bit, I figured out that this is linked to the following mailing list email : https://www.spinics.net/lists/ceph-users/msg66016.html Ceph copy on write cloning breaking because Cinder can't work ifshow_image_direct_url is set to true is a pretty big issue, I believe. It's possible that this has been talked about before, but there's no other trace I could find outside of that Ceph mailing list email. Additionally, in Kolla, setting show_image_direct_url to false doesn't solve this issue because by default, Kolla appears to also set show_multiple_locations to true. By setting show_multiple_locations to false through a custom configuration, I am able to create volumes from glance Ceph images again (images have to be re-uploaded for this to work though). Of course, these volumes are not created through copy-on-write, because that's broken. I couldn't find any bug report pertaining to these issues. If they are not known, then I would be happy to make a bug report. Suppose I have 6 spinning disk: sdb sdc sdd sde sdf sdf And I have 1 nvme disk: nvme1 I am labelling each spinning disk as follows: sdb KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_1 sdc KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_2 and so on On nvme I create 6 partitions with the following names: KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_1_BS KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_2_BS and so on Is the above correct ? [puppet][TripleO] Is the OpenDev yum-puppetlabs mirror still used?

Hello, The OpenDev team has been looking at our AFS disk utilization with an eye towards pruning and trimming out content that is no longer used. We've noticed that the yum-puppetlabs mirror [0] is fairly sizeable [1] and we're wondering if it is still being used. If it is still being used do you need all of the contents of the mirror or can we trim it back? Currently looks like there is content for older Fedora releases, SLES, and various puppet versions. It also looks like we may not have synced this recently (not sure why yet). Any info you can provide on how this is used is much appreciated. Due to storage pressure in a variety of our subsystems (node images, caches, package mirrors) we're looking at under-utilized aging platforms with an eye for cleaning those up to free some space and reduce our management overhead. High on that list are our debian-stretch nodes and associated mirroring. Stretch was released over four years ago, and became effectively obsolete when Buster was released two years ago. It reached normal EOL one year ago and has limited LTS for only another eleven months. We've had newer debian-buster images available in OpenDev for a couple of years already, and more recently debian-bullseye which is due to be officially released soon. Almost nothing uses the debian-stretch label in master branch configs according to codesearch, though I expect some projects are still relying on it to perform tests on a few of their older stable branches. They may also be relying on the inappropriately-named "debian-stable" nodeset which is based on debian-stretch, though again I see a very low incidence of it in master branches at least. If we were to drop our debian-stretch nodes and debian-stable nodeset definition, how much of an impact would it be on projects? Would a few weeks be enough time for those affected to prepare, or should we be thinking more on the order of months? -- Jeremy Stanley

Hello TripleO in case you missed the announcement from Ashlee at [1] the yoga ptg will be on October 18-22. We need to decide on the timeslot to use so we can reserve a room to meet. I started a doodle poll at [2] please indicate which time works best for you. The times in the doodle poll are UTC so you need to work out what it means for your location. I arbitrarily chose tuesday 19th but same times will apply to all days. In the last two virtual PTGs used the 1300-1700 UTC - so sanity check does this time still work best for the majority of our community? Hello Felipe: Did you configure both the server and the agent? Probably you configured the server correctly, this is why you can create and apply the QoS policies. But you also need to configure the OVS agent [1]. In the plugin ML2 config (by default /etc/neutron/plugins/ml2/ml2_conf.ini), you need to configure the agent extension: [agent]extensions = qos Check this config file and then enable the OVS agent debug logs (restarting the agent). Check the logs for any QoS message there. You should also check: - For BW limit ingress rules (ingress from the VM point of view, this is the default point of view): the OVS agent creates a QoS register and a queue register in the OVS DB table. You should see them using ovs-vsctl tool. - For BW limit egress: the OVS agent modifies the port Interface table, setting the "ingress_policing_rate" and "ingress_policing_burst" (we don't do traffic shaping, we drop packets exceeding the max rate but it works). We have a situation when kolla images log inside the container into '/var/log/nova' where there is no log rotation. There is no easy way to change that in kolla-ansible based deployments. Is there any specific reason why default logging has been hardcoded like that? Hello, probably we discovered a new bug in kolla wallaby manila generic driver. Starting by victoria release, the manila share conf requires the section [glance] otherwise it cannot create the service instance. We will have the same schedule set up available as last time with three windows of time spread across the day to cover all timezones with breaks in between. VM Migration To New Hardware with OpenStack

QUERY Section A: We are in the process of migrating VMs from a Vendor to OpenStack . The Vendor has hosted the VMs using RedHat Virtualization and HyperV around 100 VMs. Each VM size varies from 50 GB to 150 GB size. What is the best way to migrate these VMs to New Hardware infra Installed with OpenStack Ussuri. What need to be done at the existing live VMs with the Vendor and in what file format we have to ask the vendor to give the snapshot of VMs to be migrated ? I am new to the migration of VMs from a live production setup ( the present Vendor deployed VMs with all aplications running on the VM with HyperV and RedeHat KVM. ) We are also using KVM hypervisor. Kindly advise and direct me with all good practices followed to perform this migration from existing vendor to our own setup with OpenStack and KVM. Pls shed some light on this. QUERY SECTION B Another question below ffor a trail the existing vendor has given a demo VM, which is a Windows VM with an ERP application hosted on it . But the vendor handed over three files of single VM , Three qcow2 files. They handed over three qcow2 files for this VM as follows. 1. First file is OS image as qcow2 2. /boot as another qcow2 image 3. /lv-datat as another qcow2 image How to combine these files and we can create a Running VM from these files and put it on bare metal installed with KVM only. Hi Team, We have deployed the Openstack Victoria release using Multinode Kolla Ansible deployment. There are 2 nodes - one for compute and other for Controller+Network Following the below link, we also upgraded the setup from Victoria to wallaby https://docs.openstack.org/kolla-ansible/latest/user/operating-kolla.html During the Upgrade process, we figured out that the VM which was spawned before Upgrade went to shut off during the middle of Upgrade process and post completion of the upgrade process, we had to manually start the VM again. Ideally we were expecting that the existing Workloads would remain unimpacted in this process. Can someone please suggest if our observation is correct or any steps that needs to be taken in order to avoid this? Regards Anirudh Gupta

[manila][ptg] Yoga cycle Project Teams Gathering information

Based on experience these timings have generally worked for us, albeit they're bound to be too early or too late in some time zones. We'll try to be accommodative and schedule additional meetings if you're interested but cannot make it at the designated time. [manila][stable][release] Transitioning stable/queens and stable/rocky to eol and the fate of stable/stein

Hello zorillas, stable branch maintainers and operators, We've kept stable/queens and stable/rocky branches of manila, python-manilaclient and manila-ui around under extended maintenance for a while now. The coordinated Queens release was 2018-02-28 and the Rocky release was 2018-08-30. The last time a change was backported to these branches has been a while: - manila stable/queens: Jan 20, 2021 stable/rocky: Jan 18, 2021 - python-manilaclient stable/queens: Jul 6, 2021 (Oct 14, 2020 before that) stable/rocky: Oct 13, 2020 - manila-ui stable/queens: Jul 16, 2020 (already EOL'ed, see [4]) stable/rocky: Oct 16, 2019 CI jobs on the manila repo have been failing on these branches, and the team has no bandwidth to address them; we polled the community members and contributors during several IRC meetings as well as the Xena Project Teams Gathering, and there has been steadily reduced interest in needing these branches to be maintained. So, I'd like to request that these branches be moved to end-of-life. Any open changes on these branches for these repositories have been abandoned, and patches are posted [1][2][3][4] to create the EOL tags. Once the Xena cycle concludes, we would also like to transition stable/stein branches on these repositories and bid adieu to the last remnants of python2 testing in manila. Happy to answer any queries and appreciate your help in concluding this activity. Thanks! [cinder] new driver freeze exception for PowerStore NFS

I'm granting a driver freeze exception to the Dell EMC PowerStore NFS driver: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/cinder/+/79760 The driver is mostly ready and the third-party CI is functioning. It could use one more round of reviews. To be included in the Xena release, the driver should be merged by 20:00 UTC on Friday, 23 July 2021. cheers, brian
