Hi, Another fun moment :-) New tox 4.46.0 was released quite recently. This release requires virtualenv 20.39.0 which was released a few days ago (See https://github.com/tox-dev/tox/issues/3069 for details). This conflict with virtualenv pinned to 20.38.0 in upper-constraints and we found some of the functional jobs of client libs (at the moment of writing, cinderclient and heatclient at least) due to the following behavior. - These jobs first install devstack and run tox to test clients accessing API - tox in current CI image is <4.46.0, but it is updated to 4.46.0 due to somehow neutron plugin installs tox (it loos like this is not actually required and I'm trying to get rid of it by https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/devstack/+/977970 ) - however virtualenv is still pinned to 20.38.0 due to uc. The typical error caused by this combination is "AttributeError: 'PythonSpec' object has no attribute 'machine'" # See https://zuul.opendev.org/t/openstack/build/3f2448194352452a9f674d6c0648b816 There is still some discussions about whether we can bump virtualenv in u-c[2]. Please be aware of this and avoid recheck for now. [Nova][vms]Preventing VM I/O Errors When Ceph OSD Nodes Go Down

Dear Community, We are running OpenStack 2023.1 with Ceph as the backend storage on a 3-node deployment. Recently, we faced a scenario where two of our servers became unresponsive (hung state), and we had to reboot them. During this time, VMs running on the affected compute node started reporting I/O errors inside the guest OS, such as: [ 33.911093] blk_update_request: I/O error, dev vda, sector 229880 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x800 phys_seg 2 prio class 0 [ 33.914953] Buffer I/O error on dev vda1, logical block 319, lost async page write [ 33.914953] Buffer I/O error on dev vda1, logical block 320, lost async page write [ 33.927594] blk_update_request: I/O error, dev vda, sector 229904 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x800 phys_seg 2 prio class 0 It appears that when Ceph becomes unavailable (or quorum is lost), the VMs continue attempting writes, which results in I/O errors at the guest OS level. Our goal: We would like to prevent guest filesystem corruption or I/O errors when Ceph is down. Hi, It appears tungstenfabric is no longer active. [1] > The official Tungsten Fabric website states that the project will be shut down on August 1, 2024. The latest images consumed by openstack-helm [2][3] found on Docker Hub are from 5 years ago for nightly [4] and 8 years for non-nightly [5]. [keystone] App Credential reactivation after reconnection is not immediate

If you create a 24-hour credential application with a non-local user who has a 2-hour time-to-live (default_authorization_ttl), after 2 hours the TTL resets to 0 and the credential application stops working, which is expected. If the user logs back in, there's a waiting period before the credential application becomes functional again, and the same applies if the user want to create a new credential application. I've noticed that if the user leaves a group with member privileges, for example, their app credentials are immediately invalidated. The same behavior should occur when the user logs back in after the TTL expires.

[neutron] multicast and allowed address pairs

Hi Neutrinos, We have a user who discovered that two neutron backends behave differently when it comes to handling multicast traffic. This user runs servers that need multicast for VRRP coordination (the point is multicast, not VRRP). They discovered that with the (no longer upstream supported) OpenDaylight backend, they need to let the multicast traffic through with an allowed address pair. On the other hand, the ml2/ovs backend (here always assuming the ovs firewall driver) allows the multicast traffic by default. If you add the same allowed address pair (for example: {'mac_address': '01:00:5e:00:00:64', 'ip_address': '224.0.0.100'}) as with OpenDaylight, it actually breaks multicast traffic. The traffic breaks even on other servers, affected by the same set of flows installed by ovs-agent. My question is: which backend behaves correctly? And do we need to change anything upstream? Since I found the following upstream history... https://opendev.org/openstack/neutron/src/branch/master/doc/source/admin/co… https://bugs.launchpad.net/neutron/+bug/1889631 ... I believe that ml2/ovs (with the ovs fw driver) behaves correctly when it lets the multicast traffic through by default. However I believe it is a bug that the traffic breaks when the user adds the allowed address pair. But I think it would be pretty pointless to start fixing the traffic itself since we would need to make changes for no effect. Rather we could reject allowed address pairs with multicast IPs/MAC addresses, because that would call the attention of the user that multicast traffic is already handled at a different place (that is the default behavior of the fw driver). I also believe that the OpenDaylight driver is buggy when it does not let the multicast traffic through just like ml2/ovs does. However this is not an upstream problem anymore, since networking-odl is long deprecated. Do you agree in the judgement where the bugs are in this case? The possible upstream change: Do you think we should start rejecting allowed address pairs with multicast IPs/MAC addresses? Plus I guess a doc update for allowed address pairs api-ref is due... If needed, I'm happy to bring this to the drivers meeting. It's 100% that I could attend next Friday (6th of March) and 80% for this Friday (27th of February). Thanks, Bence

Hello Stackers, We're five weeks away from the date of the coordinated release of OpenStack 2026.1 "Gazpacho" [1]. On Thursday this week, we'll observe a feature freeze across all deliverables following a cycle-with-rc release model [2]. This is in preparation for the first release candidate for all these deliverables in a couple of weeks. During this past week, CI was unstable due to upstream changes, and a lot of it required work from across project teams. We're hoping that the testing remains uneventful while we go through this last leg of our release journey. The OpenStack Technical Committee did not make any new governance changes in the past week. We're defining the tested runtimes for the OpenStack 2026.2 "Hibiscus" release cycle [3]. Please take a look and give us your feedback. === Weekly Meeting === The last weekly meeting of the OpenStack TC occurred on February 17, 2026, over the #openstack-tc channel on OFTC [4]. We discussed the ongoing election cycle. A lot of the PTL and TC nominations were pending at the time of this meeting, and we were proactively considering next steps. As is usual, however, we expect (and saw) a late surge of nominations before the deadline. On the technical front, we are intensifying our focus on the Requirements team's health and its integration with deployment-focused contributors. The current lack of a confirmed Deployment Project Liaison (DPL) team risks pushing us into a TC appointment stage, which we would prefer to avoid through active community engagement. We're hoping to make the global requirements process more accessible to downstream owners and deployment experts to ensure our dependency management reflects real-world production needs. Finally, we noted several ongoing CI issues. While the setuptools regressions have stabilized significantly on the master branch, we have targeted work remaining to ensure that older supported stable branches have a viable CI. Hi, Started seeing this failure yesterday in the neutron-functional job: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'packaging.pylock' Full ouptput at https://paste.opendev.org/show/bawqTgzkecxaK5DVEEAA/ I figured it was another issue with a new release of the packaging library as I see a 26.0 now, but upper-constraints is pinned to ==25.0 so I don't see how it's being pulled-in. The logs do show 26.0 being used at the end so I'm confused. I even tried to do a quick pin but it's still using 26.0: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/neutron/+/977556 Have any other projects seen this? Nova Multi-Cell Live Migration Issues

Hello All, I'm trying to get a 2 cell setup going as a test environment and am running into some troubles. I seem to be able to start VM's just fine, however when I try live-migrations I am getting this error: 2026-02-19 20:11:01.448 1 ERROR nova.conductor.manager [None req-91d4c1c6-a69f-41d4-a3ca-c0890bde0af8 - - - - - -] Migration of instance 73123ed9-d112-4030-945c-96c75a016d55 to host compute1 unexpectedly failed.: oslo_messaging.rpc.client.RemoteError: Remote error: RemoteError Remote error: CantStartEngineError No sql_connection parameter is established I see this on the following service logs nova-conductor (superconductor role only) nova-api nova-compute What is odd is that I don't see any activity in the cell-conductor when this happens, even with debug enabled. I'm basing this off the multi-cell diagram in the docs. The fact that the cell-conductors aren't showing any activity when this happens is throwing me off. Development Focus ----------------- We are getting close to the end of the 2026.1 Gazpacho cycle! Next week on February 26th, 2026 is the Gazpacho-3 milestone, also known as feature freeze. It's time to wrap up feature work in the services and their client libraries, and defer features that won't make it to the 2026.2 Hibiscus cycle. General Information ------------------- This coming week is the deadline for client libraries: their last feature release needs to happen before "Client library freeze" on February 26th, 2026. Only bugfix releases will be allowed beyond this point. When requesting those library releases, you can also include the stable/2026.1 branching request with the review. As an example, see the "branches" section here: https://opendev.org/openstack/releases/src/branch/master/deliverables/pike/… February 26th, 2026 is also the deadline for feature work in all OpenStack deliverables following the cycle-with-rc model. To help those projects produce a first release candidate in time, only bugfixes should be allowed in the master branch beyond this point. Any feature work past that deadline has to be raised as a Feature Freeze Exception (FFE) and approved by the team PTL. Finally, feature freeze is also a good time for submitting a first version of your cycle-highlights. Cycle highlights are the raw data that helps shape what is communicated in press releases and other release activity at the end of the cycle, avoiding direct contacts from marketing folks. I feel like this week is one of the most exciting week we have had recently :-P We started seeing consistent POST_FAILURE in openstack-tox-py310 (and other jobs using py310). https://github.com/testing-cabal/testtools/issues/569 The issue was caused by testtools and was fixed in testools 2.8.4, but we likely need to rebuild the image used in CI to pull the fixed version. Please avoid mass recheck or merging any new changes now before you check the CI status carefully. Hi all, I am currently experiencing issues while setting up a basic ironic deployment. My environment consists of a controller running Ubuntu 24.04 and a baremetal host with IPMI support but no operating system installed. I am using kolla-ansible for the Flamingo version OpenStack deployment, and all configuration is being managed through the globals.yml file. One of the controller’s network interfaces is configured to provide DHCP and is connected to a physical switch. I have attached an image (Figure 1) illustrating the physical layout of my setup. I verified that these images were functioning correctly by successfully launching an instance. At this point, I am unsure how to proceed with booting the desired image onto the bare-metal host. Hi all, I would like to announce my candidacy for Watcher PTL for the 2026.2 (Hibiscus) cycle. I started contributing to OpenStack during the Stein cycle in Manila project where I still assist with patch reviews, depending on the demand. Starting at 2025.1 release, I have been a Watcher contributor and maintainer, working with other contributors to revive the project and tackle many of the existing technical debts. In 2025.2 I started the effort to remove Eventlet from Watcher and in 2026.1, working as tact-sig, have been refactoring our CI, including our stable branches, to properly test patches in both check and gate pipelines. Hello Stackers, We're 6 weeks away from the date of the coordinated release of OpenStack 2026.1 "Gazpacho" [1]. We have a number of release deadlines scattered between this week and next, so it's an extremely busy time for project maintainers and our release management team. The nomination window for the combined TC and PTL elections is also closing this week (at 23:45 UTC on February 18, 2026) [2]. At last count, there were 27 project teams that still needed a PTL nominee. If you'd like to volunteer to be a PTL or if you think someone else should be, please ensure a nomination is submitted prior to the deadline. If you have questions regarding the process, please feel free to ask them on this mailing list or in the #openstack-election IRC channel on OFTC. The substantive governance activity in the past week was around the CI fixes concerning the regression in setuptools [3]. We've had to resurrect some "x-static" repositories in order for the OpenStack Dashboard project team to work around the changes from the upstream Python community. We're beginning to define the tested runtimes for the OpenStack 2026.2 "Hibiscus" release cycle [4]. Please take a look and give us your feedback. === Weekly Meeting === The last weekly meeting of the OpenStack Technical Committee was held over IRC on February 10, 2026 [5]. We focused on our past action items, technical debt, and the ongoing election cycle. We have officially closed the chapter on Monasca by abandoning 173 open changes across several repositories, and conversely, we’re seeing a promising revival of Cyborg with a new PTL nominee and a fresh team structure. In the hope of staffing project teams that have a large cross-project impact, we've proposed PTL nomination directories for the Requirements and Oslo teams not just to solicit candidates, but to spark a discussion on how we better support these critical dependencies. We discussed navigating a "borked" gate due to the recent setuptools' pkg_resources deprecation [3]. While we are currently merging "band-aid" pins to restore CI stability on stable branches, the situation would have been significantly worse without the proactive work done by Stephen Finucane (stephenfin) and Takashi Kajinami (tkajinam) over the last few months. Their foresight has saved project teams from a much larger headache during the feature freeze rush that's underway. Finally, we called out to project teams to review the User Survey streamlining plan [6]. Our goal is to refine this feedback loop prior to the PTG in April [7] so we can make timely improvements. Hello, I would like to announce my candidacy for Manila PTL for the 2026.2 (Hibiscus) cycle. I have been serving as Manila PTL for the past couple of releases and am happily investing time and energy into working with this very talented and passionate group of contributors. Over these releases, we have been creating more and more opportunities for contribution, ranging from code to involving cloud users and operators in our discussions to collect feedback. This helps us deliver valuable enhancements and fixes. We still have lots to do, and that includes enhancing our contributor experience. Therefore, in the upcoming cycle, I would like to direct our focus to: Eventlet: python-manilaclient is successfully migrated. We are now completing the migration in the manila code base, so we will focus on finalizing it and testing the changes we are making while moving away from eventlet. Tech debt: Continue the efforts to reach parity between Manila APIs and Manila UI, and complete the rootwrap -> privsep migration. VirtioFS: Closing the scenario testing gap for VirtioFS. Mentorship: Continue shepherding and encouraging more active reviewer participation and preparing new core reviewers. Communication: Reshaping the way we communicate and document our team priorities. Development Focus ----------------- Work on libraries should be wrapping up, in preparation for the various library-related deadlines coming up. Now is a good time to make decisions on deferring feature work to the next development cycle in order to be able to focus on finishing already-started feature work. General Information ------------------- We are now getting close to the end of the cycle, and will be gradually freezing feature work on the various deliverables that make up the OpenStack release. This coming week is the deadline for general libraries (except client libraries): their last feature release needs to happen before "Non client library freeze" on February 19th, 2026. Only bugfixes releases will be allowed beyond this point. When requesting those library releases, you can also include the stable/2026.1 branching request with the review (as an example, see the "branches" section here: https://opendev.org/openstack/releases/src/branch/master/deliverables/pike/… In the next weeks we will have deadlines for: * Client libraries (think python-*client libraries), which need to have their last feature release before "Client library freeze" (February 26th, 2026) * Deliverables following a cycle-with-rc model (that would be most services), which observe a Feature freeze on that same date, February 26th, 2026. Any feature addition beyond that date should be discussed on the mailing-list and get PTL approval. As we are getting to the point of creating stable/2026.1 branches, this would be a good point for teams to review membership in their $project-stable-maint groups. Once the stable/2026.1 branches are cut for a repo, the ability to approve any necessary backports into those branches for 2026.1 "Gazpacho" will be limited to the members of that stable team. [neutron][ovn-bgp-agent] Fix for missing /etc/iproute2/rt_tables after iproute2 upgrade

Hi everyone, I wanted to bring attention to an issue that affects ovn-bgp-agent deployments after upgrading to newer versions of the iproute2 package. Problem: In newer iproute2 package versions, the default rt_tables file has been moved from /etc/iproute2/rt_tables to /usr. This change was introduced as part of iproute2's move to a "stateless" configuration pattern where configuration files are read from /etc first, falling back to /usr if they don't exist. You can see the related iproute2 commit here: https://github.com/iproute2/iproute2/commit/0a0a8f12fa1b03dd0ccbebf5f85209d… When iproute2 is upgraded on Rocky Linux (and other RHEL-based systems), if /etc/iproute2/rt_tables was modified, it gets moved to /etc/iproute2/rt_tables.rpmsave and the original file isn't recreated. See https://access.redhat.com/solutions/7123966 for more details. I suspect Debian-based systems have the same issue. The ovn-bgp-agent has a hard requirement on /etc/iproute2/rt_tables existing, which causes it to fail with a FileNotFoundError when it attempts to read the file: FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/iproute2/rt_tables' The error occurs in ensure_routing_table_for_bridge() when the agent tries to check for existing routing table entries for bridges. Proposed Solution: I've proposed a fix that ensures the /etc/iproute2/rt_tables file exists before attempting to read it. The solution: 1. Creates a new privileged function ensure_routing_tables_file() that: - Creates the /etc/iproute2/ directory if it doesn't exist - Copies the default rt_tables file from /usr/share/iproute2/rt_tables to /etc/iproute2/rt_tables if the latter doesn't exist 2. Calls this function before reading rt_tables in ensure_routing_table_for_bridge() This approach maintains backward compatibility while handling the new iproute2 package structure gracefully. Hello Stackers, I am submitting my candidacy for another term on the OpenStack Technical Committee. It's been two years since I was first elected, and I've served as TC Chair during this time. In these past two years, we've gotten some important things done: the CLA-to-DCO transition that our community asked for over a decade ago, extending the VMT's mandate to all project teams, setting clear expectations around project retirements and governance transitions, and consolidating our governance repositories. I'm proud of this work, and I'm running again because there's more to do. One thing that has become clear to me as Chair is that the people who keep OpenStack running by fixing gates, reviewing code across projects, reporting and triaging bugs, maintaining infrastructure and other myriad things don't get enough recognition for it. I'm hoping to change that by creating an objective, tangible way to acknowledge valuable contributions and enthuse our community to do more of this work. We are one of the largest open source projects in the world, and the community that's responsible for it is a bedrock needs constant care. I also want the TC to stay engaged with where cloud infrastructure is headed. OpenStack should be the free and open source choice for Sovereign Clouds and AI workloads. We'd do this not by chasing trends, but by ensuring our project teams are equipped and positioned for these use cases as they mature. On the governance side, I'll keep working to eliminate bottlenecks that slow our project teams down while maintaining the consistent maintenance model that has made our successful projects sustainable. The Technical Vision for OpenStack Clouds hasn't been modified in a while, and I'd like to help draft its next iteration. I'll take the opportunity to also include a process for evolving it. Lastly, two years on the TC have shown me how much we benefit from experienced, engaged leaders across our projects. I want to build mentoring pathways for future TC members, so our leadership pipeline is as durable as the software we produce. Thank you for your consideration. Hey all, I've just noticed that setuptools v82.0.0 released todayish and breaks a bunch of Kolla builds (and probably other things) by removing pkg_resources. https://setuptools.pypa.io/en/stable/history.html#v82-0-0 has further details of the release. setuptools doesn't seem to be listed in upper-constraints, perhaps because it's often provided as a distro package? In test environments, some users choose to build their infrastructure inside KVM virtual machines, while others use cloud instances such as EC2 bare-metal that support nested virtualization. After deploying OpenStack, many of them face a major issue: they are unable to access their OpenStack instances. I encountered the same problem myself. After several weeks of intensive troubleshooting, I eventually found a solution. That is why I would like to share this solution with others who face the same issue, and hopefully contribute to the OpenStack community by providing recommendations that could be added to the official OpenStack documentation.

Hello, After serving as PTL for Flamingo and Gazpacho, I would like to announce my candidacy for the 2026.2 (Hibiscus) Nova and Placement PTL role. The previous cycle was somewhat unusual, as upstream contributions from several core contributors were impacted by internal changes within their organizations. Despite this, the community stayed engaged and resilient, and I am grateful for everyone who kept things moving forward. The Eventlet removal effort, which started earlier and significantly progressed during Flamingo and Gazpacho, should reach completion this cycle. This will be an important milestone and will allow us to introduce new changes more confidently. In 2026.2, I would like to focus on enabling forward-looking work such as confidential computing improvements, restarting collaboration with Manila around virtiofs, and further I/O performance improvements. The concrete priorities and scope of these efforts will be discussed and refined during the next PTG. In parallel, I will continue to improve review efficiency and maintain a welcoming and focused community. My goal remains simple: keep Nova and Placement robust, maintainable, and aligned with our users’ needs. I would be honored to continue serving in this role. Thanks, René

Hello. I am deploying OpenStack 2025.1 with Kolla-Ansible 2025.1 (master branch) using the latest images. However, when I created a RabbitMQ(4.0.x) cluster with 3 nodes, it took too long—around 12 minutes(it stucked at DB: virgin node -> run peer discovery). How to change flavor or sg of a virtual machine with Ansible?

Hello, I'm new in this Openstack world and I love Ansible. I'm trying to use the openstack.cloud Ansible collection to manage virtual machines. There is no problems in adding or deleting a virtual machine (vm). The openstack.cloud.server module works very well. I'm in trouble if I want to update a vm. The server module has only the "present" state: the resource is not updated after the creation if I change something in the module parameters. So, I can't use openstack.cloud.server module in order to change the flavor or security group of an already existing vm. The "server_action" module is not useful because it has not update actions about sg or flavor. I tried the CRUD "resource" module in some way such as --- - name: Change resources hosts: localhost tasks: - name: Change flavor to vm openstack.cloud.resource: cloud: myStack service: compute type: server attributes: name: vm-name flavor_id: 22b4d2c2-0fff-437b-a67c-009244f89403 state: present wait: true but the play fails with fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "extra_data": {"data": null, "details": "Invalid input for field/attribute server.
