[neutron] auto shedule explained?

Hi, im trying to understand the use-cases of # Allow auto scheduling networks to DHCP agent. (boolean value) network_auto_schedule = false # Allow auto scheduling of routers to L3 agent. (boolean value) router_auto_schedule = false if I read the code correctly, both options should only be used if there is (during runtime) an network without any l3 or dhcp agents, so neutron would trigger an automatic reschedule to new agents, isnt it? I disabled both options and created a new network, which automatically got l3 and dhcp agents assigned, so it seems like my assumption is correct? Thanks a lot, Fabian Zimmermann

[neutron][ironic] Remove deprecated option 'external_network_bridge' from neutron config

Hi Ironic devs, Some time ago I started removing of very old and deprecated since long time option ‚external_network_bridge’ from Neutron. Main patch for that is in [1]. All needed work to remove that is almost done. It was blocked by Tony Breeds because Ironic is still using this option. So I would like to ask You if You have any plans to remove usage of this option that we will be able to remove it completely? [tc] Questions for TC Candidates

It's the Campaigning slot of the TC election process, where members of the community (including the candidates) are encouraged to ask the candidates questions and witness some debate. I have some questions. First off, I'd like to thank all the candidates for running and being willing to commit some of their time. I'd also like to that group as a whole for being large enough to force an election. A representative body that is not the result of an election would not be very representing nor have much of a mandate. The questions follow. Don't feel obliged to answer all of these. The point here is to inspire some conversation that flows to many places. I hope other people will ask in the areas I've chosen to skip. If you have a lot to say, it might make sense to create a different message for each response. Beware, you might be judged on your email etiquette and attention to good email technique! * How do you account for the low number of candidates? Do you consider this a problem? Why or why not? * Compare and contrast the role of the TC now to 4 years ago. If you weren't around 4 years ago, comment on the changes you've seen over the time you have been around. In either case: What do you think the TC role should be now? * What, to you, is the single most important thing the OpenStack community needs to do to ensure that packagers, deployers, and hobbyist users of OpenStack are willing to consistently upstream their fixes and have a positive experience when they do? What is the TC's role in helping make that "important thing" happen? * If you had a magic wand and could inspire and make a single sweeping architectural or software change across the services, what would it be? For now, ignore legacy or upgrade concerns. [placement] zuul job dependencies for greater good?

Zuul has a feature that makes it possible to only run some jobs after others have passed: https://zuul-ci.org/docs/zuul/user/config.html#attr-job.dependencies Except for tempest and grenade (which take about an hour to 1.5 hours to run, sometimes a lot more) the usual time for any of the placement tests is less than 6 minutes each, sometimes less than 4. I've been wondering if we might want to consider only running tempest and grenade if the other tests have passed first? So here's this message seeking opinions. On the one hand this ought to be redundant. The expectation is that a submitter has already done at least one python version worth of unit and functional tests. Fast8 too. On one of my machines 'tox -efunctional-py37,py37,pep8' on warmed up virtualenvs is a bit under 53 seconds. So it's not like it's a huge burden or cpu melting. But on the other hand, if someone has failed to do that, and they have failing tests, they shouldn't get the pleasure of wasting a tempest or grenade node. Another argument I've heard for not doing this is if there are failures of different types in different tests, having all that info for the round of fixing that will be required is good. That is, getting a unit failure, fixing that, then subumitting again, only to get an integration failure which then needs another round of fixing (and testing) might be rather annoying. I'd argue that that's important information about unit or functional tests being insufficient. I'm not at all sold on the idea, but thought it worth "socializing" for input. [tc] [election] Candidate question: growth of projects

This is another set of questions for TC candidates, to look at a different side of things from my first one [1] and somewhat related to the one Doug has asked [2]. As Doug mentions, a continuing role of the TC is to evaluate applicants to be official projects. These questions are about that. There are 63 teams in the official list of projects. How do you feel about this size? Too big, too small, just right? Why? If you had to make a single declaration about growth in the number of projects would you prefer to see (and why, of course): * More projects as required by demand. * Slower or no growth to focus on what we've got. * Trim the number of projects to "get back to our roots". * Something else. How has the relatively recent emergence of the open infrastructure projects that are at the same "level" in the Foundation as OpenStack changed your thoughts on the above questions? Do you think the number of projects has any impact (positive or negative) on our overall ability to get things done? Recognizing that there are many types of contributors, not just developers, this question is about developers: Throughout history different members of the community have sometimes identified as an "OpenStack developer", sometimes as a project developer (e.g., "Nova developer"). Should we encourage contributors to think of themselves as primarily OpenStack developers? If so, how do we do that? If not, why not? Thanks. [dev][swift] Regarding fstab entries in object servers

Hi all, This is with regards to an issue in the documentation of Openstack Swift and mostly an issue to system administrators operating Swift.(Sorry if the subject tags are wrong!!) In the Swift Multiserver docs, When setting up an object storage server, the docs tell to use the disk labels in the disk's /etc/fstab entries. eg: /dev/sda /srv/node/sda xfs noatime............. I feel that we should encourage people to use UUIDs rather than disk labels. I have had a lot of issues with my Swift storage servers crashing whenever I reboot them. I have found out that the issue is with the /etc/fstab as the disk labels change whenever a disk is removed or added(depends on the OS's "mood" i.e boot order). I don't want to change my ring configuration every time I reboot my storage servers. Thank you Bharath
