[all][TC] Stats about rechecking patches without reason given

Hi, During the last PTG and after it, in the TC we were discussing about CI resources usage and about "rechecks" of the CI jobs (I know, it's again the same topic). One of the things we would like to limit, or even avoid is to do "no reason rechecks" which means writing quick comment "recheck" without checking what really was wrong in the previous run. We know that putting some hard rules that only comments with "recheck" with given reason will trigger new CI jobs run will not work fine as people may simply start writing any random things there. But we want to encourage all teams to at least to investigate failures and do as many rechecks with explanation as possible. For now I prepared simple script [1] which counts how much of all rechecks are "bare rechecks". It can be checked by project (like openstack/neutron) or give summary for all projects or teams (like Quality Assurance for example). [Openstack--Ansible] Playbook for Host Prep

Hello, I am wondering if there is any sort of playbook or script for setting up the networking on a new physical host prior to adding it to a cluster. It is a bit cumbersome to do it by hand, especially given that bridges on one type of host need an IP while the same bridge on another type of host should not have an IP. Seeding the /etc/hosts file would be nice as well. Going a bit further, it would be awfully nice if a given host could have the same 4th octet for all host interfaces, or at least for the important ones. [sdk] renaming a volume with the SDK

I'm trying to set a property on a volume, specifically the name. But when I try to do this, it tells me the Session object has no default_microversion. I have all my auth in environment variables. Using TOKEN authentication. Hello Everyone, We have received a good amount of feedback from the operator. In ops meetup Berlin as well as from KDDI (Japanese telco). I have summarized the feedback in etherpad[1]. From feedback, it is clear that 'scope' enable will break heat so do NFV operators and even other operators are also confused with the 'scope' concept. Most operators want legacy admin to work as it is (able to do everything in deployment). We discussed this feedback in the policy popup meeting[2] and based on feedback and our outstanding issue of 'scope enable break heat create_stack', we decided to postpone the `scope` implementation. That is the way forward to at least implement the project personas which is asked by many operators. Basically the below direction: * Finish delivering project personas This is to introduce the `member` and `reader` roles to operate things within their project. By default, any other project role like `foo` will not be allowed to do anything in the project. * Postpone the `scope` implementation for later Some standalone services like Ironic can still have the `scope` implementation as long as it does not break any cross-service communication. Other services will make sure they work for project scope personas even with enforce_scope enabled. We are not saying 'scope' things are not good or we will never do it but at the same time, I am not sure when we will do it in future. At least moving this giant goal to focus on the project personas first will help us to deliver one good feature (project personas) for operators otherwise we are stuck. Kolla Train deliverables are going EOL

Dear Fellow OpenStackers, Kolla Train deliverables (Kolla, Kolla-Ansible, Kayobe) are going EOL. [1] Ussuri and Victoria remain in extended maintenance. Wallaby, Xena and Yoga are our current stable releases. The primary reason for EOLing is that the branch's CI is badly broken by Python2 and CentOS7 issues and there is no interest in fixing the issues. Glance folder to store images

I noticied in the glance configuration file after deploying openstack that filesystem_store_datadir=/var/lib/glance/images/ however, upon inspection, I found that images weren't stored in that folder, instead all images where located in this folder */var/lib/docker/volumes/glance/_data/images/.* So I'm thinking if actually filesystem_store_datadir is not used to store images but maybe something else.

What is the best configuration of network interfaces to deploy openstack

So I'm deploying openstack xena using kolla ansible, and i've used infiniband network to connect between the serves of my cluster, however I was wondering whether it is advisable to use a single interface for for " *api_interface*" and "*storage_interface*" and " *tunnel_interface*" or maybe using separate interfaces would be better? Furthermore, I want to ask if using *ipoib *for the infiniband network is a better option than a regular ethernet rg45 network. Thank you all.

Hi all, During the summit we had some nice conversations and I wanted to actually use the chance and try to formalise the discussion to gather broad opinions and ideally solutions. Sidenotes:>>>>> - I enjoy opendev - I really enjoy gerrit and find it an ultimate code review system - I can understand people not able to cope with additional complexity and prefer pull request pattern to the change pattern - I use PR change pattern for relatively simple projects (and lot of other huge projects do it this way) - I am not blaming and not going to blame anybody here End sidenotes>>>>>> - Some month ago gophercloud folks came to us and wanted to give source code under the foundation. Feedback from us was more or less: you either host on opendev and use gerrit or not at all. Members of gopher cloud rejected proceeding this way with detailed reasoning. I can fully understand reasonings and I also observe similar issues with auto-closed GitHub PRs (for SDK or OSC) and the fact that those changes in most of the cases never really reach gerrit. Especially in the SDK area it would have been very useful to get various SDKs under single team to spread the know how and synchronise their feature sets. Maybe even use shared credentials to public OpenStack clouds to verify and publish their coverage. - Some software solutions (especially those based on Golang) were designed with GitHub in mind and are actually not really working outside. For example in order to publish provider for HashiCorp Terraform into their registry your product must be hosted on GitHub (particularly you must upload build artifacts as release on GH). There is sadly no other possibility. - My company has created HashiCorp secretstore plugin for OpenStack and we are willing to donate this under the foundation to have proper ownership of the software (not to have our company name in the hosting path since it is pretty confusing). From features point of view there is still place to evolve and it would be cool to get other interested parties to participate. We would be able to OpenDev without conceptual issues and are going to request projects for that, but that still has one issue: publishing of binary artifacts - not immediately available in opendev (afaik). On GitHub we publish it as GH Release. As such the point I am trying to address is that we as a very big project should be bit more open to the world of tools around OpenStack (I mean explicitly **not** the OpenStack itself) and allow easy integration for those who want to extend OpenStack ecosystem. Depending on the particular application this may set certain limitations on the solution (i.e. must be on GitHub, must use Jira, whatever) which might be not compatible out of box with the OpenDev scheme. Do we as a open community want to set strict boundaries or can we ease some of those for the ecosystem around of OpenStack? - Would it be possible for the project hosted outside opendev be governed by OIF and somehow visually belong to OpenStack? (As a user I would definitely choose to use GitHub.com/openstack/project_x rather then GitHub.com/some_crappy_nic/project_x) - Can such project enjoy Zuul integration not being part of opendev git hosting? Technically it is surely possible (Ansible modules were tested this way), but requires in my eyes precise definition. P.S. For the case when zuul/github integration (management) is the only limiting factor I will be gladly supporting the integration and maintenance, since we have created an Ansible collection for managing of GitHub organisations/projects/teams/members (in the project-config spirit) which we use to manage our deployment (and I know others are using it as well). Regarding Floating IP is existing Setup

hi Team, We got a issue in Xena release, where we set the environment in Ubuntu Platform, But later we get some issues in Floating IP not reachable. In a Network node, not all router namespace are Impacted and only few of them get affected, So we can not comment Network node has a issue. The L3 agent where the Router is tied up, Worked just fine, as other routers work Fine. and the one having issue in Floating IP, if i unassigned and assigned it starts working most of the time. Nova not updating to new size of an extended in-use / attached cinder volume (Ceph RBD) to guest

Hello Openstack-Discuss, after some digging I found out that cinder learned to resize attached (in-use) volumes quite a while ago with the introduction of the initial "extend 'in-use' volume" feature: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/cinder/+/454287/ The support was then extended to also cover Ceph RBD backed volumes with: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/613039/ Since this is only about the cinder part, I was wondering if nova would ever find out and would actively rescan the device / volume and quintessentially present an increased new size to the guest. Apparently this is where a certain volume-extended event comes into play: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/454322/ that is to be emitted by cinder when a volume had been extened. I then went head and tried this with the openstack cli (as Horizon does not seem to support / offer to resize in-use volumes. I run Openstack Train with Ceph RBD as storage. First I ran into an issue with the openstack cli (https://bugs.launchpad.net/cinder/+bug/1871759/comments/2 <https://bugs.launchpad.net/cinder/+bug/1871759/comments/2>) but using cinder extend $volumeid $newsize I was able to resize in-use volumes just fine. The only thing missing was the propagation to the guest. I played around with SCSI rescans, but that did not work, reboots also failed to do anyting in this regards. Stopping and starting the VM did work, but why having the capability to online-resize an attached volume when not being able to resize the guest volume as well? Apparently there seems to be an old and somewhat similar observation / bug with https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1369465 So I was simply wondering if this is expected to be working? Hello Ironicers o/ I would like to gather some feedback before moving forward with the oficial request to close some branches. 1) Closing some bugfix branches I would like to check if we are ok with closing all other bugfix branches except for: *ironic:* bugfix/20.2 | bugfix/19.0 | bugfix/18.1 *ironic-python-agent:* bugfix/8.6 | bugfix/8.3 | bugfix/8.1 *ironic-inspector:* bugfix/10.12 | bugfix/10.9 | bugfix/10.7 These are the branches I know people use, but it's good to double check before removing all other bugfix/*. The reason to close is because it became a bit more complicated to maintain CI working properly in those branches, so if we don't have people using and looking at backports and making CI work I think we can close them. 2) Closing all stable branches pre-train. [kolla] [nova] Duplicated compute service IDs in Openstack client

We're running kolla-ansible Train. We were trying to delete some compute services today and we got an error: $ openstack compute service delete 54 Failed to delete compute service with ID '54': Service id 54 refers to multiple services. (HTTP 400) (Request-ID: req-3bc400a4-367e-41dc-85f8-fa9011cc96cc) 1 of 1 compute services failed to delete. When we used "openstack compute service list" we saw that ID 54 was assigned to a nova-compute service on a hypervisor, and to a nova-scheduler service on a controller. We worked around it by using "nova service-list" to get the UUID-style ID and then "nova service-delete" After that I sorted by ID with " --sort-column ID" and found that some active services have duplicate IDs: | 33 | nova-compute |<region>-compute504.<domain> | AZ22 | enabled | up | 2022-06-27T18:22:47.000000 | | 33 | nova-scheduler | <region>-ctrl1.<domain> | internal | enabled | up | 2022-06-27T18:22:43.000000 | Is this a bug in the Openstack client?

Issues With trove guest agent

Dear Trove community, My name is Hernando, I’m writing this email because I spend a lot of time trying to make trove yoga version works, the service functionality seems that is working, however the guest agent not, I built an image following the build process in the documentation ( https://docs.openstack.org/trove/ussuri/admin/building_guest_images.html ), also I used the image that you have in http://tarballs.openstack.org/trove/images/ So right now, when I create a data store instance, the instances is active normally and I can reach it, I go inside it, and I saw that the guest agent service doesn’t pull the datastore docker container image. I put the guest agent config file manually in the image, because trove task manager never put it via cloud unit, it only put the guest info conf. So this case is weird because I’m didn’t get any log error, that’s why I’m here. Well could you please provide me some guides about this process? Maybe an example of the new trove config files, I’ll really appreciate this help. Thanks for read, Regards Hernando Clareth

hello I have two problems and I ask you for a little help before doing stupid things. If I correctly diagnosed the first problem, which is to replace novnc by spice in my installation, it is not possible. I'm using Centos, I'm on the Wallaby version, and the last tag for the Docker image is Train. So my first question is: can I somehow replace novnc with something else, spice or another? Second question: I would like to switch from Wallaby to Xena (unless we can switch from Wallaby to Yoga... is it possible?) . After a year of operation, this is the first time I have had to do an update with an openstack in production (student instances have been deleted, end of the academic year) but not used for a few days. Is the following procedure correct: git clone --branch stable/xena https://opendev.org/openstack/kolla-ansible mv kolla-ansible kolla-ansible-xena (to keep multiple versions) pip install ./kolla-ansible-xena kolla-ansible -i multinode bootstrap-servers kolla-ansible -i multinode prechecks kolla-ansible -i multinode deploy What to do with globals.yml and the /etc/kolla/config overload? no changes ?
