There are random very slow rxdrops for certain OpenStack VMs for their network tap interfaces. Please note that this is rxdrop, NOT txdrop. I know we could tune txqueuelen and multi-queue for tap network interface txdrop issue, but is there any known way to tune for this tap network interface rxdrop issue? Thanks, Hai

Hello, I am going to installa ceph under kolla wallaby and I have some questions about how I must prepare partitions for bluestore on may ceph servers. Suppose I have 6 spinning disk: sdb sdc sdd sde sdf sdf And I have 1 nvme disk: nvme1 I am labelling each spinning disk as follows: sdb KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_1 sdc KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_2 and so on On nvme I create 6 partitions with the following names: KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_1_BS KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP_2_BS and so on Is the above correct ? CI hiccup

Hello folks, A broadcast to inform you there was some issue in both gerrit (review.opendev.org) and zuul earlier today (around 7am CET). While the issue was corrected in a very short time (thank you Opendev Infra folks!), there was a small issue with zuul - the CI queue got emptied at some point. [puppet][TripleO] Is the OpenDev yum-puppetlabs mirror still used?

Hello, The OpenDev team has been looking at our AFS disk utilization with an eye towards pruning and trimming out content that is no longer used. We've noticed that the yum-puppetlabs mirror [0] is fairly sizeable [1] and we're wondering if it is still being used. If it is still being used do you need all of the contents of the mirror or can we trim it back? Currently looks like there is content for older Fedora releases, SLES, and various puppet versions. It also looks like we may not have synced this recently (not sure why yet). Any info you can provide on how this is used is much appreciated. [dev][infra][tact-sig] Dropping debian-stretch images from OpenDev

Due to storage pressure in a variety of our subsystems (node images, caches, package mirrors) we're looking at under-utilized aging platforms with an eye for cleaning those up to free some space and reduce our management overhead. High on that list are our debian-stretch nodes and associated mirroring. Stretch was released over four years ago, and became effectively obsolete when Buster was released two years ago. It reached normal EOL one year ago and has limited LTS for only another eleven months. We've had newer debian-buster images available in OpenDev for a couple of years already, and more recently debian-bullseye which is due to be officially released soon. Almost nothing uses the debian-stretch label in master branch configs according to codesearch, though I expect some projects are still relying on it to perform tests on a few of their older stable branches. They may also be relying on the inappropriately-named "debian-stable" nodeset which is based on debian-stretch, though again I see a very low incidence of it in master branches at least. If we were to drop our debian-stretch nodes and debian-stable nodeset definition, how much of an impact would it be on projects? Would a few weeks be enough time for those affected to prepare, or should we be thinking more on the order of months? -- Jeremy Stanley

Hello TripleO in case you missed the announcement from Ashlee at [1] the yoga ptg will be on October 18-22. We need to decide on the timeslot to use so we can reserve a room to meet. I started a doodle poll at [2] please indicate which time works best for you. The times in the doodle poll are UTC so you need to work out what it means for your location. I arbitrarily chose tuesday 19th but same times will apply to all days. In the last two virtual PTGs used the 1300-1700 UTC - so sanity check does this time still work best for the majority of our community? Hello Felipe: Did you configure both the server and the agent? Probably you configured the server correctly, this is why you can create and apply the QoS policies. But you also need to configure the OVS agent [1]. In the plugin ML2 config (by default /etc/neutron/plugins/ml2/ml2_conf.ini), you need to configure the agent extension: [agent]extensions = qos Check this config file and then enable the OVS agent debug logs (restarting the agent). Check the logs for any QoS message there. You should also check: - For BW limit ingress rules (ingress from the VM point of view, this is the default point of view): the OVS agent creates a QoS register and a queue register in the OVS DB table. You should see them using ovs-vsctl tool. - For BW limit egress: the OVS agent modifies the port Interface table, setting the "ingress_policing_rate" and "ingress_policing_burst" (we don't do traffic shaping, we drop packets exceeding the max rate but it works). We have a situation when kolla images log inside the container into '/var/log/nova' where there is no log rotation. There is no easy way to change that in kolla-ansible based deployments. Is there any specific reason why default logging has been hardcoded like that? Hello, probably we discovered a new bug in kolla wallaby manila generic driver. Starting by victoria release, the manila share conf requires the section [glance] otherwise it cannot create the service instance. We modified the manila conf inserting the section [glance] like the following: [glance] auth_uri = http://10.102.119.194:5000 auth_url = http://10.102.119.194:35357 auth_type = password project_domain_id = default user_domain_id = default region_name = RegionOne endpoint_type = internalURL project_name = service username = glance password = password cafile = memcache_security_strategy = ENCRYPT memcache_secret_key = password memcached_servers = 10.102.119.195:11211,10.102.119.196:11211, 10.102.119.197:11211 And now it can create the service instance. VM Migration To New Hardware with OpenStack

QUERY Section A: We are in the process of migrating VMs from a Vendor to OpenStack . The Vendor has hosted the VMs using RedHat Virtualization and HyperV around 100 VMs. Each VM size varies from 50 GB to 150 GB size. What is the best way to migrate these VMs to New Hardware infra Installed with OpenStack Ussuri. What need to be done at the existing live VMs with the Vendor and in what file format we have to ask the vendor to give the snapshot of VMs to be migrated ? I am new to the migration of VMs from a live production setup ( the present Vendor deployed VMs with all aplications running on the VM with HyperV and RedeHat KVM. ) We are also using KVM hypervisor. Kindly advise and direct me with all good practices followed to perform this migration from existing vendor to our own setup with OpenStack and KVM. Pls shed some light on this. QUERY SECTION B Another question below ffor a trail the existing vendor has given a demo VM, which is a Windows VM with an ERP application hosted on it . But the vendor handed over three files of single VM , Three qcow2 files. They handed over three qcow2 files for this VM as follows. 1. First file is OS image as qcow2 2. /boot as another qcow2 image 3. /lv-datat as another qcow2 image How to combine these files and we can create a Running VM from these files and put it on bare metal installed with KVM only. We are installing openstack in a new DC and seeing openstack-nova-consoleauth/scheduler failed to start up. Checking log and found this. Host 10.160.4.5 is not allowed to connect to this MariaDB server. There are 2 nodes - one for compute and other for Controller+Network Following the below link, we also upgraded the setup from Victoria to wallaby https://docs.openstack.org/kolla-ansible/latest/user/operating-kolla.html During the Upgrade process, we figured out that the VM which was spawned before Upgrade went to shut off during the middle of Upgrade process and post completion of the upgrade process, we had to manually start the VM again. Ideally we were expecting that the existing Workloads would remain unimpacted in this process. Hello zorillas, stable branch maintainers and operators, We've kept stable/queens and stable/rocky branches of manila, python-manilaclient and manila-ui around under extended maintenance for a while now. The coordinated Queens release was 2018-02-28 and the Rocky release was 2018-08-30. The last time a change was backported to these branches has been a while: - manila stable/queens: Jan 20, 2021 stable/rocky: Jan 18, 2021 - python-manilaclient stable/queens: Jul 6, 2021 (Oct 14, 2020 before that) stable/rocky: Oct 13, 2020 - manila-ui stable/queens: Jul 16, 2020 (already EOL'ed, see [4]) stable/rocky: Oct 16, 2019 CI jobs on the manila repo have been failing on these branches, and the team has no bandwidth to address them; we polled the community members and contributors during several IRC meetings as well as the Xena Project Teams Gathering, and there has been steadily reduced interest in needing these branches to be maintained. So, I'd like to request that these branches be moved to end-of-life. Any open changes on these branches for these repositories have been abandoned, and patches are posted [1][2][3][4] to create the EOL tags. Once the Xena cycle concludes, we would also like to transition stable/stein branches on these repositories and bid adieu to the last remnants of python2 testing in manila. Those vary depending on deliverable type: * General libraries (except client libraries) need to have their last feature release before Non-client library freeze (August 19). [nova] Milestone 2 - spec freeze

Hi, Yesterday we hit Xena Milestone 2. This also means nova is now in a state of spec freeze. The Yoga spec directory already exists so specs that are not merged to Xena can be propose to Yoga already. I've updated the bp states in launchpad[1]. Please check your bps and let me know if I missed something or misunderstood the status of the implementation work. We have 20 open bps at the moment which is a lot. Please note that Milestone 3 and therefore feature freeze is 3rd of September, which is 7 weeks from now. Setting bandwidth limit

Hi, I am running openstack victoria installed using packstack. Everything things to be fine except bandwidth limit. I have tried to limit internal traffic between two instances and between instances and "Internet" but I always get maximum data transfer speed. I have set up following rules openstack network qos rule create --type bandwidth-limit --max-kbps 3 --max-burst-kbits 2 --ingress bw-choke openstack network qos rule create --type bandwidth-limit --max-kbps 3 --max-burst-kbits 2 --egress bw-choke and applied bw-choke policy to the internal network where my instances are deployed: openstack network set --qos-policy bw-choke newdeploylab_private_network and to ports where machines connect to subnet: openstack port set --qos-policy bw-choke 503a07b8-2da0-4abe-8251-ede648ba42b4 openstack port set --qos-policy bw-choke 776d5fb3-639c-47cc-9b0f-6ec855397df7 but nothing happens. Each time I try to download something from internet or copy data from an instance to another I always get maximum data transfer speed. Hey everyone, The Xena cycle is going by fast, and it's already time to start planning some of the early things for the Yoga release. One of the first steps for that is actually deciding on the release schedule. Typically we have done this based on when the next Summit event was planned to take place. Due to several reasons, we don't have a date yet for the first 2022 event. The current thinking is it will likely take place in May (nothing is set, just an educated guess, so please don't use that for any other planning). So for the sake of figuring out the release schedule, we are proposing one schedule targeting a release date at the end of March. Hopefully this will then align well with event plans. [neutron][vpnaas] Ok with V. not working with W.

Hello, i have been trying to fix a problem for over 2 weeks with no success so am looking for some help as my openstack is due to work in september (for my students). I need the vpnaas service. I'm doing a lab with centos / kolla-ansible / victoria ... vpnaas works, exactly what I need. I replace V with Wallaby. Exactly the same server, the same Centos, I just change V to W in the configuation file. Everything works except Vpnaas. I have a new server, and for some reason I can't have Victoria (issue with horizon that I don't understand). I'm trying Wallaby. Everything works perfectly except Vpnaas. Why ? It's incomprehensible. A bug ? Hi, We've been using Kolla to provision a production cluster and we've noticed that the ceph-client version provided in the Kolla images is severely outdated as it doesn't support the fix to CVE-2021-20288 that was added in Pacific 16.2.1 (installed version in image is 16.2.0). As a result, the installed ceph-client can't connect to ceph clusters where the patch is active. Is there any Kolla image where more recent versions of ceph-client is installed? Hi, Flavors have both names ands IDs and both can be set during creation - what is the background for having both being separate from each other? I'm asking this because magnum uses flavor id for it's "instance-type" node annotation (which is understandable) and by default flavor ID is an autogenerated UUID. Hi, I'm progressing in figuring out Kolla and I've hit another issue. On our regular setups, we happen to be using multiple Ceph backends in cinder. Each of those backend uses a differently named ceph config file (like ceph.conf and ceph-rep.conf). While adding a custom configuration to cinder.conf is pretty easy, what's the best way to ensure that my second ceph config file ends up in my containers at the correct path? Hello Everyone, As you may have noticed I have pushed a series of patches[1] in the last few months to drop nodejs10 support from our gate job because nodejs10 is already EOL. All horizon plugins and horizon moved to nodejs14 which is the current LTS version also runtime for the Xena release[2]. Next Step is to drop nodejs10 support, only two horizon plugins left that still run nodejs10 job i.e openstack/heat-dashboard and opensatck/murano-dashboard. So I would request to heat and murano core team to approve open patches for the same [3], [4] and then we can finally drop it from the horizon. [all] Request to fix the warning to reduce the log size

Hello Everyone, As you might have noticed the discussion in infra channel, log size are increasing a lot and one of the main reasons is warnings (especially repeatedly warnings). Few of them are from oslo policy on new policy and DeprecdatedRule. However, those are not the only warnings, there are lot from other lib also. Before we start facing more issues in logging system and indexing, we would request all the project team to start looking at the logs and fix the warnings as much as possible. Hi, Is there a comprehensive listing of the nodes available for use in Zuul CI? I looked through the listing here: https://zuul.opendev.org/t/openstack/nodes not sure if that list is complete? More specifically I'm trying to find out if any s390x nodes exist. Signs point to no, but I'm just trying to be sure. Also, assuming there aren't any, how would someone go about adding more nodes if possible? Thank you, -Adrian

Manage network quotas from Horizon

Take care when deleting email addresses in Gerrit

Hello everyone, We have discovered a bug in Gerrit [0] that allows you to delete your account's Ubuntu One OpenID association if you delete the email from your account associated with that OpenID. When you do this the next time you log in Gerrit will create a new account for you. Fixing this after the fact is currently difficult. We are working to correct this but the required corrections take time. We would like to avoid these issues in the first place. Please avoid deleting email addresses from your accounts unless you are sure they are not associated with your OpenID. If you would like help double checking that for you please let us know and one of our Gerrit admins can double check. We are working to make this fixable after the fact, and will try to work with the Gerrit upstream to prevent you from deleting Ubuntu One OpenID associations from your account in the first place. Until then we apologize for the inconvenience. Finally, this message and others like it are sent to service-announce(a)lists.opendev.org. I am sending this email to a much broader set of mailing lists because the service-announce list membership is quite small.
