Open Stack

Hey all,

Thought I’d add another data point for what we’re doing here at Oracle. I can only speak to the Solaris side - there are other folk on the mailing list that can speak to Oracle Linux. 

We’ve just recently integrated Kilo into our development gate in the last few weeks, and working on back porting this to a Solaris 11.3 support update - Mitaka will come later this year, hoping to land that in fall. There’s a quite a bit more work on the Solaris side that we need to do as we’re laying OpenStack on an entirely different platform and different technologies, so a little hard to compare with other Linux based distributions. We’re moving as fast as we can, but there’s a lot of processes that we’re having to follow internally that slow things down that are pretty stereotypical of a large corporate environment. We’re slowly moving towards a ‘develop to tip’ eventual goal to hopefully make this faster on our development cycles, but there will be some things that just will always take a bit more time (security reviews, bug counts, legal reviews, etc..). Most of our customers are only going to want to update their cloud environment at a very minimum once per year and that’s what we’re targetting for now with a yearly update cadence for our OpenStack distribution.
