[Product] FYI. Mirantis just released their Liberty distro

Rocky,
You are correct.
But what it really shows that communal releases require substantial work before they are ready for consumption. While some users are happy to take communal release, most prefer to wait for distro releases because they satisfy their requirements on quality, upgradability, support, LSM, tools, etc.
This is equivalent to Linux releases and distros, Apache ones, and other open source projects.
Run communal release on actual hardware configuration and see how many gate tempest tests pass.
This is a separation between upstream work by the community and eco system around it to meet Customer needs.
This is why community needs our WG. Just because a project claims that feature is available does not mean that it is ready for consumption in openstack as a whole. But distros solve that and support it for multiple years including full LSM.
Thanks,
Arkady

Yes. Mirantis' broad support is their differentiator but takes them longer to get to their own release. And yes, their support is at least three years. That said, EOL for Liberty is November.

I read differently that Mirantis has taken time to build their Liberty based distribution for all the platforms they support with the value added features they wanted to use to differentiate from others - the multi hypervisors support is a good example of this. The length of time Mirantis then chooses to support MOS 8 for their customers is up to them and I guess (without having checked) that it will be 3 years from release date.
Best Regards

This pretty much shows that many consumers wouldn't deploy a distro version until right around EOL.
