[Product] Breakout Session Proposal for A Glimpse of the OpenStack Roadmap

Hi everyone,
I would suggest that we remove any references to explaining the Product WG
(beyond an intro) and how to provide input through user stories, etc. from
this abstract. The roadmap session should focus on delivering the content
received from the project teams versus explanation of the process, etc.
This was feedback that was received after our roadmap session last summit.
A lot of people attended the session expecting to see an overview of the
direction projects teams would like to head with their projects and they
felt that the session didn't some enough time on the core content itself.
We have another session that is being proposed (Jim H., Megan R., Rocky G.,
and myself as presenters) that will cover an overview of the group but also
share with users how to get involved (by participating in working groups
and an overview of the user story submission process).
The abstract for that session is:
*Session Title: Contributing as an OpenStack User*
Level: Beginner
Track: How to Contribue
Abstract:
Have you ever had a really interesting idea that you believe could benefit
a significant number of OpenStack clouds but you are not a developer so
can't contribute code? Join us in this session to learn about the various
ways non-developers can (and need to!) contribute to the OpenStack
community. This session not only applies to operators but to any person
that has a stake in the future of OpenStack.
We will cover review and discuss groups that exist inside the OpenStack
community that focus on specific market segments and how to get involved
with them. We will also introduce the concept of user stories and how to
submit them to the newly formed Product Working Group.
What you will get out of this session:
• An overview of the User Committee and working groups/teams that exist
today
• An understanding of the role that the Product WG plays, how to interact
with it, and how its results are used in the community
• Learn how you can submit user stories using the Product WG Repo and
Template
• Instructions/demo on how to submit a user story
• Understand the value of work group participation as an OpenStack user
Description:
This session is being proposed and led by the Product Working Group (
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/ProductTeam). We will also try to recruit
guest speakers such as User Committee members and/or Project Technical
Leads. The intention of this session is to increase awareness of the
working groups that exist in the OpenStack community and motivate more
people to participate in identifying/reducing key barriers to adoption for
OpenStack across multiple markets.
Thanks,
Shamail
