Reasons for lack of connectivity to google

1. You do not have connectivity to your default gateway
Symptoms: you will be unable to ping your default gateway. By default the first ip in your subnet is the ip address of your gateway.
Solution: Make sure you have a router that connects your subnet with the external network's subnet. Then make sure you are able to ping the gateway. If you are unable to do so then check for errors in your neutron plugin's log file.

2. If you are able to ping the gateway but not google. Check your instance's routing table 'route -n'
There should be a default route pointing to your gateway.

3. If all is well then the trouble is in your resolv.conf.
