Yes, once the br-ex integration bridge is configured, regular IPs will
stop working on that interface - the actual interface, not the alias,
AIUI.

So, this explains your symptom:

As Joe says, just use regular eth0, put br-ex on that, and put an IP
address on br-ex (or on an access port on it).
