[Openstack] kernel panic on instance boot

Hi all,

I've a weird problem that I can't quite figure out:

I'm migrating a bunch of VMs from a standalone qemu/libvirt server
(centos 6.5 x86_64) to an rdo havana install (centos 6.5 x86_64 -- not
the same machine). I'm not injecting any cloud config.

So far I've moved centos 6 instances (easy) and a fedora 6 instance (a
bit less easy). They all work fine.

Now I'm moving a fedora 9 instance following the exact same procedure
and the resulting instance won't boot with "attempted to kill the idle
task" kernel panic. (As always, the first few lines of the crash dump
scroll away too fast to see what they were.) Same happens if I shut off
the instance in openstack and try to fire it up through
virs/virt-manager on the compute host.

Anyone seen something like this before?
I'd appreciate any pointers, TIA
