[Openstack] instance disk space

If you check the VM that gets started, I presume the VM disk is the correct size, but the partitions and filesystem are not expanded to match?

This is the code you want to trigger, but the logs (you sent privately) suggest this code didn't run:
https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/virt/xenapi/vm_utils.py#L1975

It looks like you are missing the glance metadata "auto_disk_config=True", or you can add something to the VM boot request to trigger the auto resizing. One other possibility is that your VM disk has more than one partition, the code doesn't resize if it spots more than one partition:
https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/virt/xenapi/vm_utils.py#L789

I hope that helps,
John

Sounds like a bug worth reporting.

What flavor where you selecting, and what image were you using?

I created a flavor (RAM: 128 MB, Root disk: 10 GB, Ephemeral disk: 10 GB, CPU:1)
I used an ubuntu image.

There is some code in XenAPI driver that tries to resize the partition of the disk, and the file system on it, if I remember correctly. Can you see that in the logs? Maybe it fails because your image doesn't have a file system type it expects, or doesn't have a partition table on the disk, or vv.

the dmesg command (launched in the instance) shows the following log
dmesg
