I just did a test - there is a bug in the fedora openssl-devel package
which can be worked around by a patch to that precise branch that won't
affect the ubuntu build at all.

Do you think someone would be willing to accept that patch? Or should we
make our own branch with the patch applied and reference that in the
pip-requires?
