*Talk Abstract:*

Service)。

When organisations move from their existing virtualised infrastructures
to OpenStack, one of the biggest problem they face is the migration of
VMs running on VMWare, Hyper-V, AWS, etc. to OpenStack cloud. Most times
the process can involve time consuming, repetitive and complicated steps
like moving machines with multiple virtual disks, removal and
installation of customised hypervisor-specific tools, manually copying
the data across, etc. GUTS solves this problem by providing an
automated, efficient and robust way to migrate VMs from existing clouds
to OpenStack. GUTS is a project that aims to make the move to an
OpenStack cloud easier. It addresses the various difficulties operators
and administrators face when migrating workloads from existing clouds on
to OpenStack. Attendees will learn about the internal structure of GUTS
and we will demo the migration of virtual machines from VMware to
KVM-based OpenStack. We will also talk about the development of future
plugins and more platforms that GUTS will migrate workloads from. We
will also demonstrate GUTS’ ability to auto migrate VMs like adding
hypervisor specific tools, attaching volumes, creating a custom image.

OpenStack operators are reporting dissatisfaction with both vendor
distros and rolling their own packages. This session explains how
OpenStack CI-as-a-service StackBuffet provides the positive aspect of
both options and removes the negative. Specifically, Stackbuffet
mitigates these issues: inflexibility of distros, costs of running
in-house CI systems, expertise to back-port or integrate patches without
requiring operators to build and maintain specialised CI infrastructure
and development expertise. StackBuffet builds and tests customised
packages. Users provide a code base, which can be a fork of upstream
source with required patches, to StackBuffet and it does all the
building and testing work for the users and generates ready-to-use
packages. These packages will then be placed in a package repository,
being YUM or APT, which can be used directly by the users. The talk also
includes a short demo that shows how StackBuffet works and its main
features.

Let me know if it fits your need.

Cheers,
Joanna
