I think we have to think it outside the box of typical western developer
habit and towards to a question like "how generally people communicate ?"
As far as I know people in APAC region likes to do voice and video a lot.
IRC has a learning curve for APAC devs, believe it or not, which demands an
awesome speed of understanding the intertwining english based convos as
well as to be able type as fast as they could themselves.

I don't think whether the software is an open source one is a major
concern. The major concern is if the people in that particular region,
loves to use that.
