Update on the progress of the openstack-sig-k8s formation:

The k8s-sig-openstack group met at KubeCon in Austin last December
to discuss leadership changes and plan future work. At that meeting,
three community members volunteered to run the k8s-sig-openstack
group.

  * Chris Hoge, hogepodge, from OpenStack Foundation (myself).
  * David Lyle, david-lyle, from Intel.
  * Robert Morse, rjmorse, from Ticketmaster.

One of major decisions made at the meeting was to strongly link the
OpenStack/K8s SIGs, making them the same organization spanning across
both communities. The reasoning behind this was to keep the work
on integration and testing focused while being able to leverage
community available resources across both communities. The final step
in this process is to have final SIG approval on the OpenStack side.

Other major goals included:

  * Moving the OpenStack provider out of the main K8s tree as part
of a K8s community initiative to remove all providers. Dims is
leading up this work, and is maintaining a mirror of the upstream
code[0]. At some point in the near future this repository will be
    moved under OpenStack code management.
  * Improve testing of the OpenStack provider. Initial work is being
done by myself working with the CNCF/CICD team[1]. We are also working
of efforts to integrate zuul-based testing into both the OpenStack
gate and as a third-party CI in the K8s gate.
  * Documentation updates, including removing out-of-date installation
instructions and replacing it with a common set of best-practices
    and suggested deployment products.

Full meeting notes are available[2]. Bi-weekly meetings are ongoing, and
are on alternating Thursdays at 00:00 UTC [3]. Our next meeting is this
Thursday, and anyone interested in the SIG activities is encouraged to
attend. This is the first of weekly SIG updates to the OpenStack-SIGs
mailing list.

A formal pull request for SIG creation has been submitted. Comments
and updates to the patch are welcome[4].

Thanks!
Chris Hoge
