I think the SIG would be a great place to look into more ad-hoc mentoring and finding the ways to proactively reach out to people and/or organizations where we feel the need for it. In my view this would be a group of go to people who are offering help and also people who care about the difficulties in general that the new contributors face with and willing to look for solutions.

I see the connection to the mentoring program the WoO group is doing, but I don’t think it’s a full overlap.

I think we can also gather examples on how projects are doing on boarding and help where we don’t have coverage to have a few people in each team who are doing coaching and mentoring in some extent when needed. We can also more proactively focus on regions to ensure we are inclusive and have people to reach out to locally as much as possible and finally as you said produce guidelines where we feel beneficial.
