My two cents.
My suggestion is to have only two (gate, full) . If smoke is just needed in interim, we should name it accordingly.  There will be a question always on difference between smoke VS gate and purpose of smoke . Why cannot we name smoke tag as > short-gate so that it explains the purpose.
