 It was done years ago before I worked here. What I'm hearing is that Designate didn't do PTR records, so we wrote custom code to add that feature. Were PTR records added at some point? We're running kolla-ansible and recently upgraded from Queens to Train.

What exactly did you hack in Designate? For me it seems that using the
neutron integration is doing just fine.
