Hi PTLs!
A recent question came up regarding public sharing of the
Project-Specific feedback questions on the OpenStack User Survey. The
short answer is... this is a great idea! This information is meant to
help projects improve and the information is not meant to be kept
secret. Oddly enough, nobody asked before lbragstad, so thanks for
asking!
The long answer... I would like to add a little bit of background on the
user survey and how we treat the data.
Part of the agreement we make with users that fill out the User Survey
is we will keep their data anonymized. As a result, when we publish data
on the website[1] we ensure the user can see data from no fewer than 10
companies at a time. Additionally, the User Committee, who helps with
the data analysis, sign an NDA before reviewing any data, which helps to
preserve user privacy.
All that said, the questions for PTLs are framed as "Project Feedback",
so the expectation and hope is that PTLs will not only use it to improve
their projects, but will also share it amongst other relevant projects.
As excited as we are to have you share this data with the community, we
do want to make sure there is nothing that would reveal the identity of
the survey taker. We've already vetted the English content, but we are
still waiting on translations to finish up. So, if you decide to share
the data publicly, please only share the English content for the time
being. Feel free to reference this email or hit us up on the
user-committee at lists.openstack.org
<mailto:user-committee at lists.openstack.org>
Beyond that, we encourage you to follow in Keystone's footsteps and
share this feedback with the mailing list, at the PTG, or even with a
buddy. We hope it's valuable to your project and the community at large!
Net: PTLs, please share the project feedback publicly (e.g. on the
mailing lists) now (with the above caveats).
Cheers,
Jimmy
