Adding operators list, as it might be interesting for them. Please note that some of tested options are not available in nova, i.e., XBZRLE and postcopy-after-precopy. Regarding postcopy, nova automatically decides whether live migration should be switched to postcopy mode (only if live_migration_permit_post_copy is set to True, by default it is set to False), postcopy-after-precopy is an internal virsh command which is not exposed through the libvirt API.

Kind Regards,

Subject: [openstack-dev] [nova] Live migrations: Post-Copy and Auto-Converge features research

Hi,

As you may know, currently QEMU supports several features that help live migrations to operate more predictively. These features are: auto-converge and post-copy.
I made a research on performance characteristics of these two features, you can find it by the following link:
https://rk4n.github.io/2016/08/10/qemu-post-copy-and-auto-converge-features/

Hope you find it helpful.

Thanks

Vlad
