https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/How_To_Contribute will have some information on different ways to contribute. If you have a specific project in mind, I'd suggest searching on their bugtracker for 'low-hanging-fruit'. Either one of those bugs, or any issues/bugs you see in developer documentation are great choices for getting started. If you have any trouble, asking in IRC is often a quick way to get over a problem, but most of it's documented pretty well so make sure to exhaust the docs first.
