[openstack-dev] [Magnum] Use Liberty Magnum bits with Kilo/ Icehouse Openstack ?

As Kai Qiang mentioned, in term of OpenStack projects, Magnum depends on Keystone, Nova, Glance, Heat, Cinder. If you are looking for the exact set of dependencies, you can find it here: https://github.com/openstack/magnum/blob/stable/liberty/requirements.txt .

If you want to run Magnum with older version of OpenStack, I would suggest to have Magnum running in its own virtual environment [1], or have Magnum running in a different box. This will ensure dependencies of different version of OpenStack don’t interfere each other.

HI,

For Magnum, The community keep upstream development since Kilo.

Magnum has some dependence on Keystone, Nova, Glance, Heat, Cinder.

If you try to use Liberty Magnum against with Icehouse and Kilo OpenStack. It depends on related if heat templates include any non-icehouse, kilo resources.

For example, according to http://docs.openstack.org/developer/heat/template_guide/openstack.html
Magnum, mesos support used OS::Heat::SoftwareDeploymentGroup, It is available since Liberty in heat.

It means you could not use Magnum to deploy mesos cluster on icehouse or kilo openstack.

I suggest you two ways:

1> Try Liberty openstack possible(if you want to Liberty Magnum)

Or

2> Check related heat templates in Magnum, and compare related support in heat template guide. if all resources support. It could run. But you need test on that.

Hope it can help !

Thanks

A newbie question …

Is it described somewhere what exactly is the set of Liberty dependencies for Magnum ? Since a significant fraction of it is orchestration templates, one would expect it should be possible to run Liberty Magnum bits along with an Icehouse or Kilo version of Openstack.

Can someone help clarify the set of dependencies for Magnum on having a Liberty version of Openstack ?

Rgds,
Sanjeev
