We had a good discussion at the summit regarding ceilometer scaling. Julien has written up some of the items discussed in https://julien.danjou.info/blog/2015/openstack-summit-liberty-vancouver-ceilometer-gnocchi and there is work ongoing in the storage area for scalable storage of ceilometer data using gnocchi. I'd like community input on the other scalability concern raised during the event, namely the load on other services when ceilometer is enabled. From the blog, "Ceilometer hits various endpoints in OpenStack that are poorly designed, and hitting those endpoints of Nova or other components triggers a lot of load on the platform.". I would welcome suggestions on how to identify the potential changes in the OpenStack projects and improve the operator experience when deploying metering.
