[openstack-dev] [nova] FFE Request: Proxy neutron configuration to guest instance

Hi Nova cores,

We’d like to request an FFE for this added nova feature. It gives a real interface - a JSON file - to network data inside the instance. This is a patch Rackspace carries downstream, and we’ve had lots of interested users, including the OpenStack Infra team and upstream cloud-init. We’d love to get this in for Kilo so all can benefit from the better interface.

There are a few small patches remaining to implement this functionality:
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/155116/ Updates the testing portion of the spec to reflect we can’t tempest test this, and will instead add functional tests to Nova for it.

Core Functionality
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/143755/ - Adds IPv6 support to Nova’s network unit tests so we can test the functionality in IPv6.
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/102649/ - Builds and prepares the neutron network data to expose
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/153097/ - Exposes the Neutron network data built in the last patch to Configdrive/Metadata service

VLAN Support
As a note; while we’d like all these patches to be merged, it’s clear the VLAN support is a bit more complex than the other patches, and we’d be OK with the other patches receiving an FFE without this one (although obviously we’d prefer get everything in K).

https://review.openstack.org/#/c/152703/ - Adds VLAN support for Neutron network data generation.

Please let me or Josh know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Jay Faulkner (JayF) & Josh Gachnang (JoshNang)
