This thread reminds me a discussion I had 3 years ago at Funambol

that made me realise how hard it is to extend the scrum team beyond the 
corporate walls. Funambol had a radically different community and 
culture though than OpenStack or Pentaho fwiw --they experimented a lot 
on scrum and open source, too.

If there is one community that can make scrum/agile work with open 
source it's OpenStack. I'm happy to help.
