[openstack-mentoring][first-upgrade]Advice for Openstack upgrade
Hi! I'm Cecilia. I've just arrived in the professional world and in the Openstack world. My first mission is about upgrading a 3 compute nodes and 3 infra nodes, from Newton 14.2.8 to at least Queens. If you have any piece of advice on what I should probably not forget to do, or what could facilitate this task, I am all ears out ! Have a great day! Cecilia

Welcome! Can you tell us a bit more about your environment? What distribution is your cloud running on, and what deployment tools are you using? Also, are your infra nodes an HA configuration? No matter what, you definitely want to have really solid backups of all of your databases and of your configs. And I'd recommend devising a rollback or recovery plan before starting the upgrade. Cheers, Jill
Have a great day!

Hi Indeed, I have already started to backup everything, thanks So, now I have all my nodes running *Ubuntu 16.04.* I am in a *HA* configuration. I am using *Openstack-Ansible *an my actual openstack version is *Newton 14.2.8*. The users identify through the organisation *LDAP*. For now *we are running* : - Keystone - Nova (local storage) - Cinder (NFS) - Glance - Neutron - Heat Apparently they also tried to install Ceilometer it had weird behaviors and overwhelmed the servers so it was deactivated before my arrival... After (or is it better during?) the upgrade we *would like to add*: - Ceilometer - Gnocchi - other tools to monitor the VMs usage and to send reminders of usage to the users (grafana...) Thanks for the advice, Have a great day Cecilia Le mer. 18 juil. 2018 à 18:24, Jill Rouleau <jillr@redhat.com> a écrit :

Hey Cecilia, Sorry it took a bit to get back with you. BUT you're in luck as OSA has upgrade guides! Now you'll need to go from Newton to Ocata to Pike to Queens, but here are the related links: https://docs.openstack.org/openstack-ansible/ocata/upgrade-guide/index.html https://docs.openstack.org/openstack-ansible/pike/user/index.html https://docs.openstack.org/openstack-ansible/queens/admin/upgrades/major-upg... If you have any questions or run into any problems, please hit us up on #openstack-ansible on Freenode.
