Is Outreachy project: Extend image service support in OpenStack Horizon Closed to new applicants?

Hello Tatiana, I am Mike, an outreachy applicant that is interested in contributing to OpenStack Horizon. However, from the outreachy projects page, I have seen as if this project is currently closed to new applicants. Is this true or I have misunderstood this whole situation? Best regards, Mike

VLAN trunking with OVS

We are trying to duplicate a VLAN-trunked network we have in VIO on KVM-based OpenStack with OVS. The VIO network is attached to a VLAN-trunked port group and has about 1,000 VLANs trunked across it for development and test traffic. The official documentation shows a process for making a port for each VLAN we want trunked, which is onerous for a large number of VLANs. OVS supports trunking VLANs. https://blog.scottlowe.org/2013/05/28/vlan-trunking-to-guest-domains-with-o… Is it possible to create such a network with OVS and attach it via Neutron to instances without going through the per-VLAN sub-port process? I got the metadata network accessible over a routed subnet! The breakthrough was making sure I pointed 169.254.169.254 to the Neutron DHCP address rather than the physical or bridge IP address, this route added to the physical router (L3 switch) that serves the subnet hosting the Ironic controller. Also, I made sure to add a host route for 169.254.169.254 to the baremetal remote subnet in Neutron so the baremetal nodes will have a proper route to the metadata subnet. There is still some network tweaking left to do. We have a separate subnet for ESXi mgmt vmkernels since they use virtual MAC addresses and neutron doesn't recognize them. However, enabling DHCP relay for that separate subnet breaks routing which also breaks cleaning and deploying, and I need to find out where. This is huge for our metal-as-a-service offering! Neutron subnet with DHCP relay - continued

Good day, I'm bringing up a thread from June about DHCP relay with neutron networks in Ironic, specifically using unicast relay. The Triple-O docs do not have the plain config/neutron config to show how a regular Ironic setup would use DHCP relay. The Neutron segments docs state that I must have a unique physical network name. If my Ironic controller has a single provisioning network with a single physical network name, doesn't this prevent my use of multiple segments? Further, the segments docs state this: "The operator must ensure that every compute host that is supposed to participate in a router provider network has direct connectivity to one of its segments." (section 3 at https://docs.openstack.org/neutron/pike/admin/config-routed-networks.html#p… - current docs state the same thing) This defeats the purpose of using DHCP relay, though, where the Ironic controller does *not* have direct connectivity to the remote segment. Here is a rough drawing - what is wrong with my thinking here? Neutron subnet with DHCP relay

Good day, We have Ironic running and connected via VLANs to nearby machines. We want to extend this to other parts of our product development lab without extending VLANs. Using DHCP relay, we would point to a single IP address to serve DHCP requests but I'm not entirely sure of the Neutron network/subnet configuration, nor which IP address should be used for the relay agent on the switch. Is DHCP relay supported by Neutron? Hello All, I am a mentee trying to deploy Openstack Stein for the first time and I am trying to get the single controller environment working as HA with 3 controllers. I have spent a lot of time trying and have some of the concepts understood, and most of the configuration done, but I am just not understanding enough to get it working. Is there a mentor that could help me with this effort please? Being successful at this would be a great benefit to my employment and my employer. So far I have configured: galera for mariaDB corosync pacemaker pcs a VIP haproxy keepalive rabbitmq and the other usual culprits. Thanks! jimo

About PCYNLITX project and its innovations

Previously, I have presented my project to you. The current name of my project is PCYNLITX. PCYNLITX platform offers completely new programming technology which can be named as Programmable Meta-Programming System and PCYNLITX platform is just a particular application of this new programming methodology. Basically, PCYNLITX is an intelligent integrated development environment ( IDE ) which can produce an application-specific multi-threading library based on your needs and assists you in multi-thread software development process. PCYNLITX is not a multi-threading library. Instead, it is a multi-threading library generator. You can find out very comprehensive documentation about pcynlitx project from both project web site and source code repository. The addresses of the project web page and source code repository are given in below links. www.pcynlitx.tech https://sourceforge.net/projects/pcynlitx The outcome of the PCYNLITX platform acts as an autonomous thread management system provides deterministic scheduling of the threads. You can control the thread with the numbers given by you and determine the relation of the threads. In other words, different from the other multi-threading tools, you can directly schedule the threads independently from the operating system. The scientific journal of the project is under review on IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering. Currently, the PCYNLITX platform only works on Linux based operating systems and the other versions ( Windows and McOSx ) are under development. The License of the PCYNLITX platform is GNU GPLv3 Free Software License. You can find out many other documents including scientific introduction of the project (“Technical Introduction” ), code examples and GUI tutorial form the project web sites. OpenStack Diversity and Inclusion Survey

The Diversity and Inclusion WG is still looking for your assistance in reaching and including data from as many members of our community as possible. We revised the Diversity Survey that was originally distributed to the Community in the Fall of 2015 and reached out in August with our new survey. We are looking to update our view of the OpenStack community and it's diversity. We are pleased to be working with members of the CHAOSS project who have signed confidentiality agreements in order to assist us in the following ways: 1) Assistance in analyzing the results 2) And feeding the results into the CHAOSS software and metrics development work so that we can help other Open Source projects Please take the time to fill out the survey and share it with others in the community. Hey everyone, Ell has been blogging about her learning experiences for Linux Academy. These posts are really great, a good place to start is: https://linuxacademy.com/blog/docker/its-okay-to-be-new/ It got me thinking, mentoring means lots of different things to different people. For me, I didn't actually have any mentors early on in my career, it was a very solitary and often frustrating learning process. Those kinds of relationships came along much later and it was striking how much I got out of them and how much they would have helped if I had access to that kind of support and encouragement much earlier. It's made the mentoring relationships I have now that much more appreciated and important. So I got involved in mentoring initially through my local Linux Users Group, and now through the OpenStack community, because I'd like to help make it so that no one else has to be alone like that in their journey. It can be really hard to make that first connection, and to reach out and say "hey I could use some help". Luckily we have a really excellent community with a lot of different experiences and skills and backgrounds here in the OpenStack world, and you've all already taken that first step in saying "I want to be a part of mentoring!". So whether you're a mentor, a mentee, or both, I'd like to ask: What does mentoring mean to you? What do you hope to get out of a mentoring relationship? Cheers, Jill
