Switch to itstool for docs translation?

Hi all, I've been working on switching the docs translation infrastructure over to itstool. This affects openstack-manuals, operations-guide, and api-site. The current tools are based on xml2po, but they don't call xml2po directly. Instead, they import xml2po and mess around with its internals to get some custom behavior. itstool is designed to handle custom behavior with rules from the W3C Internationalization Tag Set (ITS). You can see the ITS I put together so far here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/91869/3/os_doc_tools/resources/openstack.i… Using ITS also allows us to do local ITS attributes to override the behavior for specific elements. See a simple example here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/91872/1/api-quick-start/src/docbkx/api-qui… Most messages in the PO files will be the same. The one big difference will be in how placeholders are done when there's a block-level element inside a block-level element (a practice I discourage anyway). Pootle Demo: Tuesday 19 August at 0800 UTC

Hi everyone, We've finally pinned down a date and time for the Pootle Demonstration by Pootle contributor Dwayne Bailey! It will be on Tuesday, 19 August at 0800 UTC http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20140819T08 We'll probably coordinate in #openstack-translation, folks can ask questions there or join the video (we'll provide a link in channel when it's set up). The session will be recorded and available on YouTube following the session so that others can review it if they miss the live demo. In the meantime, I'll be working to schedule an upgrade of our demo Pootle instance at http://translate-dev.openstack.org/ so that we have the latest RC version installed for their upcoming 2.6.0 release to work with. FUEL GILT Conference is all about language technology world, all about GILT industry - G11N, I18N, L10N, and translation world. Where should bugs on translation reported to?

Hi, I would like to raise a question where we should report translation bug. Horizon project sometimes receives bugs on translations of OpenStack Dashboard. Horizon team notes the translation work is done on Transifex and marks such bug as Invalid. For example, https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+bug/1353344 However, I noticed we don't have a official place where translation bug should be filed. Transifex is a platform for translators and it is not a bug tracking system. We already have "openstack-i18n" launchpad and can use it, but I am not sure who triages bug reports constantly. Handling translation bugs is not same as bug triaging in other projects as we need per-language bug triaging team (in theory). If we have a consensus on transltaion bug report, Horizon team can forward bugs on translations to the system. Just marking translation bugs as Invalid loses valuable bug reports and it is not good. Thought? I cannot join the I18N team meeting tomorrow due to meeting conflicts, but I hope someone leads the discussion. Thanks, Akihiro

Update of translation roadmap

Hi! Is it possible to have an update of the translation roadmap for next releases? I know there will be an update for Icehouse of Aug 7. Regarding Juno, is that Sep 4th? I'd also like to know if there is a translation check site for Juno? Is there any project in particular we need to focus on right now? There are several projects in Transifex, it would be nice to have a priority list :) Many thanks and sorry if anything has already been answered! -- Marian

Hello, I'm interested by OpenStack and I think a good way to learn is by proposing to contribute. I'm french (working in switzerland) and I've started to take a look at things about documentation and available translations. I found one documentation translated in french: "Démarrage rapide pour l'API OpenStack <http://docs.openstack.org/fr/api/quick-start/content/index.html>" I would like to propose my help, if it is accepted, to translate anything from english to french. Hi, openstack-ja.github.io has an old version of the guide that is different from what we have on docs.openstack.org at: http://docs.openstack.org/ja/trunk/install-guide/install/yum/content/instal… The guide was last updated on 2014-04-27. I suggest to remove that version and point to the version on docs.openstack.org instead.
