Parallel and distributed programming methodologies are currently dominated by low-level techniques such as send/receive message passing, or equivalently unstructured shared memory mechanisms. Higher-level, structured approaches offer many possible advantages and have a key role to play in the scalable exploitation of ubiquitous parallelism. Since 2001 the HLPP series of workshops/symposia has been a forum for researchers developing state-of-the-art concepts, tools and applications for high-level parallel programming. The general emphasis is on software quality, programming productivity and high-level performance models. Each paper will receive a minimum of three reviews by members of the international technical program committee. After the symposium the authors of the accepted papers will have ample time to revise their papers and to incorporate the potential comments and remarks of their colleagues. [apologies for cross-postings] The Workshop on Virtualization in High-Performance Cloud Computing (VHPC) <vhpc.org/> is an international forum bringing together researchers and industrial practitioners facing the challenges posed by virtualization in HPC/Cloud scenarios, in order to foster discussion, collaboration, mutual exchange of knowledge and experience, enabling research to ultimately provide novel solutions for virtualized computing systems of tomorrow. The 17th edition of VHPC will be held on June 2nd, jointly with the ISC High-Performance 2022 <https://www.isc-hpc.com/> conference and exhibition in Hamburg (Germany), and will feature two excellent industrial _/keynote speakers/_ * “rtla: finding the sources of OS noise on Linux”, Daniel Bristot De Oliveira, Senior Principal Software Engineer in the real-time kernel team at Red Hat * “DynamoDB: NoSQL database services for predictable HPC workloads”, Akshat Vig, Principal Software Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition to the general research topics mentioned below, VHPC'22 encourages particularly contributions on the following _/focus topics/_: * Container Platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, Singularity, Shifter, rkt, …) for Scientific Workflows * Composable Lightweight Applications and Unikernel Frameworks * Latency Control and Data/Container Placement in Heterogeneous HPC Virtualized Environments * Energy-efficiency and Service Orchestration in Virtualized Cloud & HPC Infrastructures *Workshop Overview* Containers and virtualization technologies constitute key enabling factors for flexible resource management in modern data centers, and particularly in cloud environments. Cloud providers need to manage complex and heterogeneous infrastructures in a seamless fashion to support the highly dynamic and diverse workloads and applications customers deploy. Similarly, HPC environments have been increasingly adopting techniques that enable flexible management of vast computing and networking resources, close to marginal provisioning cost, which is unprecedented in the history of scientific and commercial computing. More recently, Function as a Service (Faas) and Serverless computing, leveraging on lightweight virtualizaton and containerization solutions, widens the spectrum of applications that can be deployed in a cloud environment, especially in an HPC context. Here, HPC-provided services can become accessible to distributed workloads outside of large cluster environments. Various virtualization-containerization technologies contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machine virtualization, with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized servers with heterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its capability to live-migrate a fully operating virtual machine (VM) with a very short downtime, enables novel and dynamic ways to manage physical servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with its capability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for their coexistence within the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of the advantages of machine virtualization with bare-metal responsiveness and performance; lastly, unikernels provide for many virtualization benefits with a minimized OS/library surface. I/O Virtualization in turn allows physical network interfaces to take traffic from multiple VMs or containers; network virtualization, with its capability to create logical network overlays that are independent of the underlying physical topology is furthermore enabling virtualization of HPC infrastructures. *Topics of Interest* The VHPC program committee solicits original, high-quality submissions related to virtualization across the entire software stack with a special focus on the intersection of HPC, containers-virtualization and cloud computing. Hello list members, I am new to openstack.. Kindly guide me which mailining list is active and addresses the queries related to OpenStack S/W stack and advanced Infrastructure setup such as HA , Failover DC and DR site with OpenStack software components. Kindly share the list names for the above purpose where i can get response related to queries listed above. Alos which IRC chat channel supports day to day OpenStack S/W stack related discussions happen. Kindly advise me, as a newbie I would like to get some directions to this. Regards, Kris

VM fail over mechanism to Remote DR site

Members, I am using OpenStack Ussuri for our datacentre for virtualization requirements. we are using KVM hypervisor on Debian . We are in a requirement that our DR site is 200+ KMs apart from our office premises and connectivity over WAN. This DR site also going to deploy with Ussuri version. How we can setup the DR site so effectively so that, when VMs or Physical hosts in our DC clusters crashes or abruptly power to one physical machine got break due to electrical wire pulled out/unplugged , then how automatic failover to the DR site which is 300 miles away from our DC . what will be the solution for this setup so that automatically the VMs crashed in our DC will be served from our DR site with minimum latency or zero downtime (is zero down time possible ? kindly enlight on this or how to achieve near zero down time ) using OpenStack without any data loss ( is this possible no Data Loss ?). How ? Whats the best architecture for this using openstack, what all are the tools components need to be used ? and what type of solutions need to be deployed for the above requirement. VMs are nearly 100 nos and Linux and Windows majority of them with around 100 GB to 200 GB size for each VM. Kindly share your thoughts and expertise in this regard and enlighten me on what techniques / components of OpenStack need to be employed for achieving this. Cloud Computing is a well-known alternative to deal with big amounts of data, since its elasticity allows for an efficient scalability of huge computational resources, such as, data storage and processing power. On the other hand, Quantum Computing is an advanced processing technique, that uses the fundamentals of quantum mechanics to accelerate the process of solving highly complex problems. SMBQ 2020 addresses the current trends in AI and in the computational techniques that deal with big data demands, together with, a powerful processing technique that will shape the future of computation. During 2 days, from 7-8 September 2020, we will introduce concepts, discuss the current trends and provide direct practical experience in hands-on lessons. ##################################### Registration: Attendance is free, but it is required that participants register in advance by filling a form until 15 August, 2020. However, the outbreak's impact led to several requests for postponing significantly the deadlines. Following those requests, the SBAC-PAD2020's organization decided to postpone the deadline for the abstract/paper submission to June 28, 2020. SBAC-PAD is open for faculty members, researchers, specialists and graduate students around the world. In this edition, the symposium will be held at the University of Porto, Porto, Portugal. The city of Porto is famous for its Port wine and beautiful scenery, architecture and cultural events. To be published in the conference proceedings and to be eligible for publication at the IEEE Xplore, at least one of the authors must register at the full rate and present her/his work.
