Victoria Release Community Meeting
Hello, The community meeting for the Victoria release will be this Thursday, November 12th at 16:00 UTC. The meeting will be held via Zoom. We will show pre-recorded videos from our PTLs followed by live Q&A sessions. We will have updates from Masakari, Telemetry, Neutron, and Cinder. Zoom Info: [ https://zoom.us/j/2146866821?pwd=aDlpOXd5MXB3cExZWHlROEJURzh0QT09 ]( https://zoom.us/j/2146866821?pwd=aDlpOXd5MXB3cExZWHlROEJURzh0QT09 ) Meeting ID: 214 686 6821 Passcode: Victoria Find your local number: [ https://zoom.us/u/8BRrV ]( https://zoom.us/u/8BRrV ) Reminder to PTLs: We would love for you to participate and give an update on your project. I have attached a template for the slides that you may use if you wish. The video should be around 10 minutes. Please send in your video and slide for the community meeting ASAP. I have only received content for the listed above projects. If you are unable to make the meeting at the designated time we can show your video and forward any questions for you. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thank you for your participation, Helena

Could we *PLEASE* stop the Zoom non-sense? Zoom is: - known to have a poor security record - imposes the install of the desktop non-free app (yes I know, in some cases, it is supposed to work without it, but so far it didn't work for me) - controlled by a 3rd party we cannot trust It's not as if we had no alternatives. Jitsi works perfectly and was used successfully for the whole of debconf, with voctomix and stuff, so viewers can read a normal live video stream... If the foundation doesn't know how to do it, I can put people in touch with the Debian video team. I'm sure they will be helpful. Cheers, Thomas Goirand (zigo)

Actually foundation has Jitsii server also - see https://meetpad.opendev.org/ In Neutron team we were using it almost without problems during last PTG. But problem which we had with it was that it didn't work for people from China AFAIK so we had to switch to Zoom finally. Also I think that other teams had some scale issues with meetpad. But here I may be wrong and it could be problem on the PTG in June but not now, I don't really know for sure about it.
Cheers,

It's not really "the foundation" though, it's run by the OpenDev Collaboratory sysadmins and community.

This is unsubstantiated. We suspect people worldwide experience problems with getting WebRTC traffic through corporate firewalls, but on the whole people who live in mainland China have been conditioned to assume anything which doesn't work is being blocked by the government. We're working with some folks in China to attempt to prove or disprove it, but coordinating between timezones has slowed progress on that. We hope to have a better understanding of the local access problems for China, if any, soon. -- Jeremy Stanley
We can definitely consider using Jitsi for the next OIF community meeting. One significant feature that Zoom has is our ability to record the community meeting so that the rest of the community can watch on their own time, accommodating for different time zones. For those who do not wish to participate via Zoom tomorrow, the recording will be posted on YouTube and all of the PTLs share in their presentation how to connect with them via email or IRC.

This can be done with Jitsi too (but not Jitsi alone). Again, if you don't know how, I can get you in touch with the Debconf video team. Cheers, Thomas Goirand (zigo)
Let me chat with the OpenDev folks about their Jitsi instance to see what we can do for the next community meeting.

Well, client-side recording is always an option. Server-side recording could be added, the OpenDev sysadmins have discussed it, the challenges are mostly logistical (preallocating all the recording slot processes, deciding where to store and serve recordings, et cetera). The other significant feature we'd need to set up for uses like the OIF community meetings would be dial-in. We pay for a POTS trunk from a SIP broker with an assigned number in the USA for our Asterisk-based pbx.openstack.org service and have talked about reassigning that to meetpad.opendev.org but would need folks with available time to work on doing that. Adding brokers with numbers in other parts of the World may also be an option as long as we can get the okay from the folks paying the bill. -- Jeremy Stanley

Very much this, please. There are plenty of options out there and yet we _choose_ time after time to use the one that is not open source and has admitted neglecting their security and privacy issues; and effectively forces the usage of their application (I've yet to get into session without it like Thomas pointed out.) I know Zoom managed to put themselves on top of the hype wave when this COVID-19 mess started, but we should be able to do better than jumping on every single hype train out there. - Erno "jokke" Kuvaja
Thank you all for the feedback as we continue to evolve the community meetings. As we plan the next community meeting, we will actively investigate using a Jitsi instance and communicate back on the ML about how that progress is going. Today’s meeting will be on Zoom (in about 10 minutes!), but like I mentioned earlier, the recordings will be available via the Project Navigator and YouTube for folks who would not like to login to the platform. I’ll start a new thread when we make progress towards the next community meeting. If there is any other feedback, please let me know. I'm no fan of Zoom either, for many of the aforementioned reasons, but here's how I've managed to get the Web-based client to work and not install their proprietary client/extension: 0. First, having a vanilla browser process seems to help, as I've seen privacy/security-oriented extensions and configuration options block the A/V stream connections. My normal locked-down browser is Firefox, so I have Chromium installed with no extensions and its default configuration which I run exclusively for accessing Zoom and similar videoconferencing sites. 1. Load the Zoom meeting URL and you will be prompted to "Open xdg-open" which you *don't* want (this is what will try to install the binary client). Instead click the "Cancel" button on that pop-up modal. 2. Now click on the "Launch Meeting" button on the page and the same xdg-open modal popup will appear again. "Cancel" it a second time. 3. Next you'll see that the page has suddenly added a small-print line which says "Having issues with Zoom Client? Join from Your Browser" so go ahead and click on the "Join from Your Browser" link. This is the "web client" Zoom would rather you didn't use (since I'm paranoid I assume it's because they prefer to have as much access to my system and my valuable data as possible). 4. Enter your name or nickname on the new page which loads. You'll probably also be presented with a "I'm not a robot" reCaptcha which you'll need to check and solve the subsequently presented puzzle to donate your mechanical turk time to train Google's AI algorithms to be able to recognize crosswalks, bicycles, chimneys, boats, traffic signals, palm trees, tractors, and other VERY IMPORTANT objects. 5. If you're good enough at solving puzzles, now you should be able to click the "Join" button on the page. 6. Enter the meeting passcode if prompted for one (likely buried somewhere in the invite). Simple, right? :/ -- Jeremy Stanley
