[Ironic][RFE] Enable support for espresso machines in Ironic
Hi There, I was discussing this RFE with Julia and we decided it would be great to get some feedback on it from the wider community, ideally by the end of today. Apologies for the short notice. Here's the story: https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/2008791 What are your thoughts on this? Please comment in the Story or just reply to thread. Thank you, Jacob
I completely support this. However are you considering other options, such as pour-over coffee machines? Not every deployer is able to consume espresso! On Thu, Apr 1, 2021 at 1:54 PM Jacob Anders <janders@redhat.com> wrote:

Thanks for raising this Jacob! This will probably require a spec (since we will have multiple scenarios). I think we need a generic coffee driver, with support for different management-coffee-interfaces (expresso, latte, etc) and deploy-coffee-interfaces (mug, bottle). We shouldn't forget the classic drip makers that Operators tend to have in their facilities. Granted, I think they will need to send them all through cleaning once the pandemic is over. On Thu, Apr 1, 2021 at 2:37 PM James Penick <jpenick@gmail.com> wrote:

OpenStack is about producing large amounts of homogenous instances. This sort of espresso-machine pandering will just lead us down a path of supporting all kinds of lattes, mochas, and macchiatos -- not even to get started on the flavor syrups and steamed milk. We have to focus on managing large pots of coffee, so that people can drink and know the next cup they get will be the exact same. We're building a homogenous coffee environment, we can't be supporting every milk, style, and flavor syrup in the world. - Jay Faulkner P.S. Don't even try to sneak any of those dark roast Starbucks beans past the refcoffee tests. That kind of bitterness exceeds our API spec. Perhaps we should break this down into a subset of projects, one for grinding beans, one for extracting coffee, and maybe a microservice for handling milk or dairy based alternatives? I think we can also all agree that cold brew drinks are *completely* out of scope and should be implemented in another service. Everyone should just accept double expresso macchiatos as the standard for superior caffeination. Very neat. I'm hoping we can start thinking about storage sooner than later. We know everyone wants their raw materials in an infinite conveyor - and they're thinking tape machine, but let's start crawling before we're walking here. Ground coffee can't also be ephemeral for archival and regulatory purposes. Persistent storage matters.

I do believe any smart hands called to the rackmount espresso server would be greatly appreciative of this important functionality... even should a leak have developed in the system.
