Update on the merge process. Thanks to fungi, who pointed me towards [1], I prepared patch [2] to merge all changes from the rdo branch back to the master branch. I started cherry picking changes from the rdo branch back to the master branch for Elastic Recheck. [1] I'm planning to continue doing so, to revive the master branch and continue development in the main branch.

Some of the changes are incompatible between releases. We're gonna clear them case by case to enable it in the future.
