We have in a few places openstack copyright: # Copyright (c) 2020 OpenStack Foundation Should we use OpenInfra copyright going forward? Something like # Copyright (c) 20XX Open Infrastructure Foundation Thanks, Arkady Kanevsky, Ph.D. SP Chief Technologist & DE Dell EMC office of CTO Dell Inc. Interpreting from earlier guidance, things should only ever have been "Copyright OpenStack Foundation" if they were created by staff/contractors of the foundation *or* previously copyrights owned by Rackspace under the "OpenStack, LLC." moniker (2012 and prior) for which ownership was officially transferred to the foundation. As far as existing copyright statements are concerned, that would technically be up to representatives of the foundation to update, and as far as I'm aware the OpenStack Foundation still exists (with something like a "doing business as" Open Infrastructure Foundation) so there's no legal urgency to update copyright statements at this time. The foundation staff are engaged currently in inventorying legal documents which need updating, and will likely provide guidance about lower priority items such as copyright statements in the coming months. Further discussion is likely more on topic for either the foundation or openstack-legal mailing lists. -- Jeremy Stanley
Thanks Jeremy. Will wait for legal counsel to respond. The code is in refstack and had been mostly handled by foundation. This is likely a better question for legal-discuss. I suspect feedback on-list is going to be opinion, and I *think* somewhere in the documentation it actually says to NOT put in copyright headers in the foundation name, which would also make sense since contributors are not actually employed by the foundation and thus can't assert that copyright claim. -Julia On Thu, Jan 21, 2021 at 2:03 PM Kanevsky, Arkady <Arkady.Kanevsky@dell.com> wrote:
