Current market share of OpenStack implementations?
This is more of a marketing than a technical question, but the online sources seem to be either a few years old or the links have gone stale. What is the collective assessment of the OpenStack Hive Mind about the current worldwide market share of OpenStack implementations, in descending order? And which ones are growing and which ones are leveling off or declining? Candidates would seem to be: 1. TripleO OpenStack 2. Canonical's Charmed OpenStack 3. RedHat OpenStack Platform 4. Mirantis Cloud Platform 5. Packstack 6. Devstack (possibly; but that's just build from source, right?) But does something more comprehensive, more definitive, more current exist with regard to worldwide market share of OpenStack implementations? Or even segmented by continent, geographical region, or country? Thanks! Enjoy! John M. Answer to this question would interest me as well. I suppose the marketing, or equivalent, departments might have a good idea about their own customers. But I'm not sure how they would feel about sharing it, especially in detail. On Wed, Jun 16, 2021 at 4:06 PM Linebarger, John <jmlineb@sandia.gov> wrote:

CC'ing Wes Wilson as I've had similar discussions with him in the past at the foundation level. I, personally, would really love a framework where projects could upload some anonymized usage statistics and enable the entire community to query the data. One of the biggest challenges we face in Ironic is the lack of full context into the various scale of problems. The math starts to change drastically as deployments scale, and without some of that context in the community beyond operators expressing frustrations in private conversations, it is difficult for projects to build the consensus on the scale of problems in the open, much less the possible positive impact of fixing the perceived problem. Unfortunately the Foundation is likely to lean on the User Survey, but it is opt-in and announced on a mailing list and only really captures community participants as a result. Plus the growing trend I've heard mentioned on multiple fronts is operators are becoming more secretive about what they are doing with OpenStack because it is becoming an everyday thing. It is at the lower levels of their infrastructure and divulging details starts to become an operational security risk. On Wed, Jun 16, 2021 at 7:20 AM Jiri Podivin <jpodivin@redhat.com> wrote:

If you think in terms of "customers" yes, but these are free software, so they can be installed without even asking... Cheers, Thomas Goirand (zigo)

Mirantis Cloud Platform you have also kind of mixed two different things the item above 2-4 are openstack distobutions. 1, 5 and 6 are openstack installers not distobutions
so currently its not clear if you are interested in the distubution of openstack used or the intallation method. one can imply the other but not alwasy.

The Kolla project remains popular as a vendor-neutral production-ready deployment tool. Here are the user survey results: https://www.openstack.org/analytics/ 1. TripleO OpenStack

One of the best ways we can make sure that user choices like deployment tools and software vendors are captured is by encouraging anyone you know who is deploying OpenStack to take the OpenStack User Survey: https://www.openstack.org/user-survey/survey-2021 <https://www.openstack.org/user-survey/survey-2021> We pull data every August and can share anonymized data around choices like this. Please share this far and wide - it’s very helpful to have everyone update their survey if they’ve completed it in a previous cycle or start a new one if you’ve never completed one before. If you have any questions, please let me know! Allison Allison Price Director of Marketing & Community / OpenInfra Foundation e: allison@openinfra.dev p: +1-214-686-6821

Also I'd add kolla-ansible as a pretty popular choice to go to the list as well. 16.06.2021, 17:06, "Linebarger, John" <jmlineb@sandia.gov>:
