Does cinder-backup support multi-backend?
Hi, Could cinder-backup be configured with multiple-backends, ceph and nfs for example? Regards.
I just ask today. https://docs.openstack.org/cinder/latest/reference/support-matrix.html https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.openstackfaq.com/cinder-multiple-backends/%... On Sun, Apr 2, 2023, 8:00 PM Nguyễn Hữu Khôi <nguyenhuukhoinw@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Wodel, Currently configuring multiple cinder backup backends is not supported. This was brought up in our last cinder meeting on 06 April, 2023[1]. A spec was proposed to implement this[2] but there aren't any patches to implement this. Christian Rohmann (crohmann on IRC) has shown interest in this topic, so probably you can contact him about the details and can collaborate on the effort. I am just as interested as you to have this feature. First to allow transitioning from one backup backend to another, but also to offer multiple "types" of backups. One could i.e. be "onsite" the other "offsite". I gladly rework the spec and propose it for Bobcat. But I do not have the capacity to implement this. Yes, cinder itself and the already present support for different volume types could serve as some kind of blueprint, but having more than one type of backup storage likely is a little more complicated to implement and transition to as it first appears. So what are your thoughts on the matter then? Regards Christian
Hello. I feel that people don't use cinder-backup because it is slow and not show more stats such as how many percent to complete a backup job, Nguyen Huu Khoi On Wed, Apr 12, 2023 at 2:06 PM Christian Rohmann < christian.rohmann@inovex.de> wrote:

Hello again, (added Petr and Gorka to CC, as we discussed some of the issues with cinder-backup and object storage at cinder meetings) On 13/04/2023 08:44, Nguyễn Hữu Khôi wrote:

I also suspected that cinder-backup is not extremely common and mostly the RBD driver is used. That's why I asked on the ML (https://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/openstack-discuss/2022-September/03026...) about others experience with object storage. E.g. OVH just introduced volume backups (https://docs.ovh.com/us/en/public-cloud/volume-backup/) and they say that those end up in object storage. I just dropped a larger comment summing into an existing bug about backups timing out (https://bugs.launchpad.net/cinder/+bug/1918119/comments/2) as this is exactly what we observed with chunked driver backups as well. Regards Christian
