Hello Julia!

Would there be any interest in doing a workshop on how to use Terraform (or OpenTofu) and the OpenStack Terraform provider to deploy instances, networks, etc. on OpenStack? I do not have a ready-to-go workshop on this, I admit, but I have some demonstrations of deploying OpenStack resources for specific, real-world workloads using Terraform. I would be happy to put together a workshop to take folks through doing this. What do you think?

Thank you!

Hey Stig,

That is neat!

Based upon the discussion, I think we would want to orient towards general use from an end user perspective and less an admin cloud deployment perspective. It also helps in this case that a private hosted cloud provider is engaged and might be willing to donate some test tenants for the day, so people can do a lab from a laptop in a meetup venue while not needing a high end machine with lots of ram. But, we did have a couple deployment related questions, so it might be useful as well.

Thanks!

Hello Julia -

It's possible our training lab can help: https://github.com/stackhpc/a-universe-from-nothing

It is a deployment of a seed node plus 1-controller 1-hypervisor cloud, all VMs nested within a lab VM.  The README takes you through the process of deploying OpenStack using Kayobe and Kolla-Ansible.  At the end you have a miniature cloud you can log in to and spawn even tinier VMs.

By itself it's a bit rough and ready, but some of my colleagues are planning a video walk-through.  No date set for that currently.

Cheers,
Stig

Hey folks,

Yesterday, I took part in the Los Angeles OpenInfra meetup, and a question that came up from some of the organizers was if there are any practical workshop labs we can walk folks through to sort of show some practical/concrete usage aspects of OpenStack?

Is anyone aware of any such materials?

I ask because we are talking of trying to organize the next meetup in more a workshop style, especially as some participants did also express interest in hands on learning.

Thanks in advance,
