This may be out of place for this question, but I was reading about this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/oslo.messaging/+bug/2009138, which led to this query.

Do green threads in python need GIL ( global interpreter lock) for execution ? 

Also, can green threads take advantage of multiple processors ? If yes/no, why ?
