I'm referring to a very narrow sense of Nova+company. I.e. a solution for providing virtual machines booting from virtual volumes on virtual networks. Ironic does not clearly fit there, nor does, say, Zuul.
well that is mischaracterising openstack as a vm centric iaas platform the very fact that nova-baremeatal dates back to folsom and we have many baremetal only cloud means that it is false to assume that the goal of openstack and nova specificly is only to cater for vms we have had several container backend like nova-lxd and nova-docker over the years. i for one was alwasy a fan of nova libvirt/lxc and we have other project like zun that integrate with kata containers. so i think ironci fits perfectly in the view of a cloud. if it did not then it would not be a good fit in kubernetes/openshift either which would suggest that metal3 is not a useful thing. given the interst metal3 has been getting i think we can agree that is not the case and that baremetal clouds are a think and a good synergy of technologies. openstack is a cloud plathform and as much as i like nova it is not what defines openstack its the collection of service and comuntieis that we have built that does and nova and ironic are both today part of that. that does nto prevent any of the combponets form being used on there own if the service chooses to support that.
Another reason is release cadenc
