[TripleO] Moving stable/rocky for *-tripleo-* repos to End of Life OK?

Hello all, it's been ~ 2 months now since my initial mail about $subject [1] and just under a month since my last bump on the thread [2] and I haven't heard any objections so far. So I think it's now appropriate to move forward with [3] which tags the latest commits to the stable/rocky branch of all tripleo-repos [4] as 'rock-eol' (except archived things like instack/tripleo-ui). Once it merges we will no longer be able to land anything into stable/rocky for all tripleo repos and the stable/rocky branch will be deleted. So, last chance! Input for ETSI Hardware Platform Capability Registry

Hi OpenStack Community, I’m reaching out to you about a call for action that I received from the ETSI NFV group[1]. The group is currently working on a Hardware Platform Capability Registry[2] which is designed to contain information about hardware capabilities that a cloud platform offers to Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). They will use the entries of the registry as part of VNF Descriptors (VNFD). They are looking for information about hardware capabilities exposed through OpenStack in the following categories: CPU, memory, storage, network and logical node. They are looking for basic functions as well as information about accelerators. You can find further information about the registry on their wiki page[2]. I’m looking for input to submit to the registry or feedback on the approach to help this work item at ETSI. Please reach out to me or reply to this thread if your project exposes any information about the underlying hardware, which should be added to the above registry. Moving ara code review to GitHub

Hi openstack-discuss, long time no see o/ I've long dreaded doing this and sending this email out because I know how the community feels about proprietary platforms and I value the four opens that the OpenStack community has taught me so much about. I've recently reached out and asked if people would be more likely to contribute to ara if pull requests were possible [1] and had a number of potential contributors interested. Don't get me wrong: I still like OpenStack (have a cloud in my basement!) and personally prefer the Gerrit change workflow to the one on GitHub. However, I've come to the conclusion that my personal preferences should not be a barrier to contribution and so for the health and sustainability of the project I'll move the code review for ara to GitHub leveraging Ansible's Zuul deployment [2] for CI. The truth is that ara never had many contributors and the few that were interested were often discouraged by the process involved in signing up and sending a change through Gerrit. It broke my heart to see a pull request being automatically closed with a template by an OpenStack bot. It broke my heart to have to tell people that they must jump through several hoops to send a patch. I was forever grateful every single time that someone actually went through the process and managed to get a patch merged with or without my help. For more than five years already, I've done my best to salvage these contributions and ask for help but at the end of the day, most of the Ansible community projects are on GitHub and it has weighed down on me heavily to battle this inertia. Frankly, it has been exhausting and even depressing sometimes. I'm thankful for the OpenStack (and OpenDev) communities for hosting the project until now and hope to continue talking to you on freenode -- you can find me in #ara amongst many other channels. Development Focus ----------------- Work on libraries should be wrapping up, in preparation for the various library-related deadlines coming up. Now is a good time to make decisions on deferring feature work to the next development cycle in order to be able to focus on finishing already-started feature work. General Information ------------------- We are now getting close to the end of the cycle, and will be gradually freezing feature work on the various deliverables that make up the OpenStack release. This coming week is the deadline for general libraries (except client libraries): their last feature release needs to happen before "Non-client library freeze" on 4 March, 2021. Only bugfixes releases will be allowed beyond this point. When requesting those library releases, you can also include the stable/wallaby branching request with the review (as an example, see the "branches" section here: https://opendev.org/openstack/releases/src/branch/master/deliverables/pike/… In the next weeks we will have deadlines for: * Client libraries (think python-*client libraries), which need to have their last feature release before "Client library freeze" (11 March, 2021) * Deliverables following a cycle-with-rc model (that would be most services), which observe a Feature freeze on that same date, 11 March, 2021. Any feature addition beyond that date should be discussed on the mailing-list and get PTL approval. As we are getting to the point of creating stable/wallaby branches, this would be a good point for teams to review membership in their wallaby-stable-maint groups. Once the stable/wallaby branches are cut for a repo, the ability to approve any necessary backports into those branches for wallaby will be limited to the members of that stable team.
