The next meeting falls during the PTG and will be cancelled unless someone else would like to lead. We will try to do something informal at the PTG so let me know if you will be there and what night might be good or even what day for breakfast or lunch. An update on the Outreachy program, including a request for volunteer mentors and funding. Outreachy helps people from underrepresented groups get involved in free and open source software by matching interns with established mentors in the upstream community. OpenStack is a participating organization in the Outreachy Dec 2018 to Mar 2019 internships. If you're interested to be a mentor, please publish your project ideas on this page https://www.outreachy.org/communities/cfp/openstack/submit-project/. Here is a link that helps you get acquainted with mentorship process: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Outreachy/Mentors. We have funding for two interns so far. We are looking for additional sponsors to help support OpenStack applicants. The sponsorship cost is 6,500 USD per intern, which is used to provide them a stipend for the three-month program. You can learn more about sponsorship here: https://www.outreachy.org/sponsor/ . Outreachy has been one of the most important and effective diversity efforts we’ve invested in. We have had many interns turn into long term OpenStack contributors. Please help spread the word. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or sponsoring an intern, please contact me (mahati.chamarthy AT intel.com) or Sameul ( samueldmq AT gmail.com ). Thank you! The offer for someone else to take the reins is still there and as always if you'd like to add something to the agenda it can be found kere: https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/WOS_Agenda_Tracker I will send out a reminder next week but wanted to get the meeting back on everyone's schedules. URL: From amy at demarco.com Sat Sep 15 16:42:43 2018 From: amy at demarco.com (Amy Marrich) Date: Sat, 15 Sep 2018 10:42:43 -0600 Subject: [Women-of-openstack] Important Discussion and Meeting Reminder for September 17 Message-ID: In previous meetings, we have touched on the future of the Women of OpenStack as a group and it is time to take a serious look at our status and where we want to be. With feedback from Summits and meetings, the question was put to the Foundation about the possibility of opening the Women of OpenStack lunches to be more of a Diversity and Inclusion event as some members of the community didn't feel welcome or didn't want to intrude. As a result, with the enthusiastic support of both the Foundation and Intel, our sponsor in Berlin, we will be changing the lunch to a Diversity and Inclusion event instead of being a Women of OpenStack branded event, with a name yet to be determined. Over my time in the OpenStack Community, I have seen the Women of OpenStack be a force of nature taking the bit and running with things the Diversity and Inclusion WG had determined needed to be done. But I feel it is time for us to join forces and merge the two groups as the D&I WG heading with a new 'nickname' and combine our resources to make a single stronger group. So I am inviting all members of the Women of OpenStack to attend the meeting on Monday at 20:00 UTC in the #openstack-women channel and to send their thoughts and opinions to this list as well. Based on discussions I would like us to be able to make a decision at our next meeting on October 1st, so that I can get with the Foundation staff for any branding or governance changes that may or may not be needed. Once the merge is agreed upon, we will determine a new meeting time as both groups meet at slightly different times on opposing Mondays.
