Thanks for the insight, Piet- this helps. 

As far as the project goals, I think we're fairly clear on those. However, the conclusions were arrived at by a handful of people who agree.  This is another reason why we'd like to support our anecdotal views with survey results that clearly present the data behind our beliefs.

We'll see what others have to say, but I like the option of leveraging the Operators Summit to conduct interviews with attendees. Perhaps Tom will chime in with recommendations on that idea.

Good to hear from you.

I think it makes sense to have a discussion around the project¹s goals
before diving into a specific methodology.  There has been some discussion
within the community around ³survey fatigue² because there are a number of
efforts including the persona validation and bi-annual user survey.

One suggestion would be to leverage the Operator¹s Summit and conduct a
series of informal interviews with attendees.  In that case, you probably
chat with Tom Fifield to make sure it wouldn¹t be a distraction.

Of course, this is one person's opinion and the folks with both the
foundation and user committee will also respond with some ideas.
